I woke up ungodly early and couldn't get back to sleep. I stayed in bed, stewing in my own thoughts as James snored next to me before throwing out an arm and slapping it in James' general direction. He jolted up with a snort and a bleary mumble that sounded like several words smooshed together.
"Wha? Oh. Fuck," he said before dropping back down and squinting at his phone. "... time is it?"
"6:15," I answered flatly.
"Ant, we went to bed at 1 am, what the fuck?" James grumbled. I said nothing but resumed laying flat on my back, staring at the ceiling.
"Ah," James said with a sleepy smirk as he rolled over to face me. "Trouble with Loverboy?"
"No, I haven't talked to him," I replied testily. "It's still too early." I still wasn't thrilled with the nickname he'd evidently bestowed upon Ben, but James was impossible to dissuade once he'd landed on one.
"Do you want to talk to him?" James asked. I said nothing again, which caused James to laugh. I huffed in response but didn't deny it. I couldn't lie, but it felt ridiculous to be this agitated so soon after seeing him.
"It is ok to admit you miss him, Cupcake," James said gently.
"I didn't say I missed him," I protested, half to myself.
"No, but you woke me up at 6:15 because you couldn't be alone with your own thoughts," he said with a hum.
"Fuck you," I grumbled.
"I am sure he would be happy if you texted him," James said. "Unless you had something more in mind." I stayed silent once again, causing James to burst out in a laugh.
"Shut up," I said dejectedly as I half-heartedly flipped him off without changing position. Darius literally owed me forever. Having feelings was exhausting, and I hated every minute of it, especially this early in the fucking morning.
"You should ask him on a date," James suggested as he propped up on an elbow to look at me. I rolled my eyes at the ceiling.
"We were literally on a date like 7 hours ago," I replied. "That's way too soon."
"Do you want to see him today? Be honest," James added before I could protest.
"... yes," I muttered unhappily.
"Based on what I saw last night, I am sure he would be delighted to hear that. The timing doesn't matter," James said. My scowl deepened.
"I don't have a date or anything planned," I protested.
"It doesn't have to be anything fancy. You could just Netflix and chill," James suggested.
"I am not going to invite him to Netflix and chill," I replied adamantly. "I don't want him to think... whatever, I'm not doing that."
"Ok, so make it a 'movie night and cuddle' then. It doesn't have to get steamy," James said with a roll of the eyes. "I'm just saying you don't have to have some big plan to spend time with him alone."
I frowned at the ceiling for a solid minute of silence before groaning loudly and grabbing my phone. I fired off the invite immediately, too afraid I wouldn't send it if I gave myself time to think.
Me: Good morning
Me: Um
Me: It wouldn't be too soon to ask you to see a movie with me?
