Sakura

"Miyawaki! Can you get the painkillers from the storage room?!"

I'm Miyawaki Sakura and I'm currently a trainee nurse at Seoul National Hospital. It took a while to get here and I shedded a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but this has always been my dream job and I'm glad I finally managed to achieve it.

I quickly confirm the instruction has been received and rushed out, dangling the keys from my fingers as I hurry through the halls to the storage room. Someone has gastritis, so they need the pain killers urgently. Sometimes I wonder how not so busy it would be if people were just more careful, if you know what I mean?

Most of the time, patients come in because they got into a drunken fight or car accident. Aren't those things illegal anyway? I sigh internally, hurrying along and greeting my superiors as it's the polite thing to do.

"Daddy's hurt!" the voice of a little girl catches my attention and I turn towards the sound.

The girl's face is contorted with pain and there are tears falling down her cheeks like a waterfall. My eyes widen, but they soon narrow in confusion. She doesn't look hurt at all, yet she's acting like she's in so much pain, but there's not a single drop of blood or a sign of a wound on her. I look outside the glass double doors of the hospital and catch sight of a capsized car. It soon explodes into flames, smoke billowing from the scene.

I turn to the little girl again and she looks kind of familiar. Oh, she looks just like Mrs Pham, a patient that Dr Kim looks after frequently. I've become well acquainted with Mrs Pham and we're basically friends. She kept talking about her daughter all the time and I could tell the girl means a lot to her considering the shit she's been through to save her little girl.

"Let's get your wounds treated," I simply said, gently grabbing her hand and leading her down the hall, attempting to play along with whatever game she was playing.

"But Daddy!" she cried out, trying to run outside to what I assume is her car.

"Daddy's sleeping right now, he'll be with you in a bit," I tried to assure her, even thought I knew there was a darker meaning behind my choice of words.

"Can I see Mummy? She said she's getting better," the girl then questioned me about Mrs Pham. My heart broke a little, knowing the dreaded news I got just this morning about the passing of the woman.

"She's asleep too," I said. I didn't know how to explain to this girl that most likely both of her parents are dead and she clearly needed help immediately, because I suspect she might be suffering from hallucinations or a drug or something.

Until this day, I have no idea what really happened that day. Chaewon said that Hanni was under some kind of drug influence, but she couldn't figure out what drug it was, but it seemingly subsided over time.

Now knowing Hanni is in the hospital again brought back a sense of nostalgia. She grew up a lot compared to when I saw her that day, but she doesn't seem to be doing any better. And her dad, I thought he was dead, but I swear I saw him just now. I know what he looks like because Mrs Pham always told me her lovey dovey stories about her beloved husband.

I was confused that day and I'm still confused now.

Out of an impulse, I decide to follow him. I don't know what the fuck came over me, but here I am, stalking the husband of my former patient. Damn this is breaking so many morals but I need damn answers.
