IT WAS ALWAYS NICE TO KNOW that gods existed because with the monsters, I always blamed their attacks on the gods. You would have thought that this group had their worst luck ever due to what happened but we knew the truth, it was because of the gods. I always blamed Hera and my father mentally in my head, knowing their dislike towards me.
At the moment, Annabeth, Percy, Grover and I were walking through the woods along the New Jersey riverbank. I could smell the Hudson from where we walked which I didn't like at all, but I reminded myself, I've been in way worse situations.
"Two kindly ones, two." I muttered to myself, a little bit worried on what monster we would cross paths with next
"Somewhere up ahead, this turns into a satyr path." Grover noted as he took a deep breath to smell his surroundings in the forest
"The farther away, the better." I said out loud, snapping out of it when I felt Annabeth tugging me alongside her
"What's a satyr path?" Percy asked Grover with slight curiosity as they walked together behind us
"It's a road through the wilderness." Grover explained to him, "Satyr explorers use them. Harder to track us."
"That's great, but if we stay in the wilderness, how are we gonna find a phone?" Percy asked him with confusion and Annabeth turned to look at him
"Why do we need a phone for?" Annabeth asked him with a shake of her head, and he responded as she looked away, "So we can call camp. T-to get help."
"We don't need help. We're fine." Annabeth shrugged his words and I could hear him scoff from behind us
"We're fine?" Percy repeated her words in disbelief, "We haven't even gotten to Trenton and we're wondering through a forest. I didn't even know they had forests in New Jersey, but we've found one. I way say we're the opposite of fine."
"We were sent on a quest by the Oracle, by the Gods. What'd you think, it would be easy? It's supposed to be hard. That's why only certain people are chosen. If we call camp, we're basically saying it was a mistake to choose us." Annabeth explained to Percy without even a glance back to him
"I'm completely comfortable with that. Everybody makes mistakes." Percy tried to ease the tension with Annabeth
"Why are you so afraid of who you are?" Annabeth asked Percy in disbelief, coming up to a halt before I reminded her, "I mean, his mom did die, in front of him recently."
"What?" Percy simply asked Annabeth, coming to a stop right beside her, his gave never wandering from her
"You know, what's interesting about this particularly satyr path is it's actually the one my Uncle Ferdinand took when he set out on his own quest." Grover piped up, his eyes darting back and forth at the looks Annabeth and Percy were shooting at one another
"What was that suppose ti mean, afraid of who I am? I'm not afraid." Percy told her with his eyes narrowed and all she did was scoff, "Yes, you are."
"You aren't just a kid. 'Just a kid' doesn't do what you did to Clarisse back at camp. 'Just a kid' doesn't have Hades sending top lieutenants to retrieve them. You know, you are a part of something so much bigger than we can understand right now. We have to move forward, whether you like it or not, whether you want to or not." Annabeth explained to Percy who gave her a blank look in response
"If you don't want to call camp, fine." Percy shook his head at her, "Then, at least let's call your mom."
"Excuse me?" Annabeth asked Percy, taking a slight step forward as I shared a wide-eyes look with Grover
