A. Ealy
Atlanta, GASanaa was the bane of my existence.
I'd never met anyone who was so determined to pry into my life like she constantly did. Besides Nicki of course, but that was her job. Sanaa just wanted to fill the role of my mother, and I wasn't having it.
When I heard a knock at my bedroom door, I knew it was nobody but her. She was the only person in the house respectful enough to actually knock. Her children never knocked and neither did my grandmother. They just busted right in, and my dad didn't even bother to come into my bedroom at all. Sighing, I stood up and walked over to the door, opening it.
"Yes?" I asked, annoyance laced in my tone.
Sanaa smiled softly. "Dinner's ready. You wanna come downstairs and eat with us?"
It was the same routine every night, and she knew I would decline having dinner with the rest of the family. I don't know why she kept trying. I guess she thought I would agree one of these days.
"No thanks," I said.
"Are you hungry? I could bring a plate up to you," she suggested.
I rolled my eyes. "My daddy doesn't want me eating in my room. You know this already."
"It'll stay between us. He won't even know I let you eat in here," she said, giving me a friendly smile.
I was hungry, but I'd be damned if I let this lady think we were friends or something. I would just wait until everybody else was done eating like I did every night. Sanaa did make an effort, though, and I hated it. She made sure I had a plate in the microwave every night, and she gave me extra dessert. She was a try hard and I hated it.
"No, thanks. Goodnight," I said.
She nodded with a soft sigh. "Good night, Anna. Love you."
I closed the door and walked back over to my bed, flopping down on it. Usually during dinner time, I would work on some homework, but since I was out of school for the summer, I spent my time reading or talking on the phone with my friends. I would've watch TV, but I didn't have one in my bedroom.
Unlocking my phone, I went to my Instagram and started reading all of my unread messages from my group chat with my friends. There were four of us in total. Me, Aniyah, Carlie, and Janae. We all went to school together and hung out occasionally. They weren't my best friends, but they were pretty close to becoming my best friends. I loved talking to them, and sometimes we all confided in each other about whatever was bothering us.
I laughed out loud, reading the most recent messages.
