Team Eros or Ares?
MAKARIA
Eros kept moving closer, not taking my threats seriously. He had a death wish.
"You threatened to kill me before, but you didn't." My back collided with the wall, and I didn't move.
Fun fact about me, no matter how strong and scary I looked, I got nervous around certain people. Eros was one of them.
"I am different now, Eros, get the hell away from me." I said with a serious tone. "I don't have time for this." I attempted to move, but he pulled me backwards.
"Ria, let's talk."
"There's nothing to talk about, now move." I pushed him back and headed outside.
He knew better than to follow me.
I went to my room only to find Penelope there, waiting for me. She looked a bit sad, not the usual Penelope I knew. She's a very bright and happy girl, and I hated to think that something went on between her and Alexander.
"Hey..." She greeted me as soon as she saw me.
"Are you okay?" I went straight to the point.
"I didn't know you're the caring type." She smiled.
I rolled my eyes.
"I am sorry for being rude to you all this time."
"It's okay." I said nonchalantly.
"I...I heard what your mother told you about the curse." She said after pacing around the room not knowing what to say.
"You did?"
"I don't know how the rest will react, but I want you to know that I agree with your mother. If we lifted this curse only to die, then why lift it at all?"
I fixated on her face. Rosy cheeks, light freckles, round nose, big doe eyes, and her glossy lips. Her eyes didn't agree with whatever her mouth uttered. She so wanted the curse to be lifted yet cared about living. She didn't even suggest fighting whatever outside there. She had already given up.
Which was sad.
"Do you want to live like this forever?" I asked her. She was taken aback by my question, but she tried not to show it.
"No, of course not. I have always dreamed of leaving."
"Good." I replied. "You're going to die here anyways, why not fight for your life against whoever's out there?" I explained.
She stared at me before saying, "Has anyone ever told you that you'd be a great therapist?"
Yes, Eros, countless times.
"No, thank you. It's a headache."
She smiled. "Anyways, thank you, Makaria. For everything."
I looked at her as if she had grown two big heads. I rarely got a thank you from anyone, so I wasn't used to that. Besides, I never cared about if someone thanked me or not. I wasn't built to care about these human behaviors.
Penelope wasn't human, but she surely acted like one.
"You're welcome."
When she left, I laid on the bed and stared at the ceiling. My mind kept drifting back to when I saw everyone's shocked face when they saw my true demon form. I never cared before about how people saw me—hell, I loved the fear they showed whenever they looked at me.
But these people...who I almost thought of calling them friends, were different.
I didn't let my mind go any further with the thinking and closed my eyes to sleep. Nothing was worth it anyways.
***
The next day, I met with the group in the cafeteria. They acted normal and spoke to me as if nothing happened. Well...until they opened the curse's subject.
"So, Makaria, are we going to be able to leave?" Maia aske excitedly.
I glanced at Penelope who looked as if she was in pain. She didn't know how to tell them that a royal werewolf family might come back to school and kill everyone because they thought that only werewolves should live and that this land was theirs.
It wasn't hard for me though. I had some feelings, yes, but I was still 99% unemotional.
"You should all be aware that there will be consequences if we lift this curse." I announced, causing Penelope's eyeballs stretch with shock.
"What do you mean?" Ares asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"The story of Rosalie was misunderstood by the books and storytellers." I started. "She wasn't killed by the people of the land; she was protecting them."
"Then who killed her?" Alexander asked this time.
I sighed before replying, "There's a royal werewolf family who are convinced that this land is theirs. They killed Rosalie for being a witch and protecting her people. That's why she cursed this land and why she was killed. This family was exiled because of the curse, but if we lifted it, they might come back and kill everyone." I explained.
"So, let me get this straight..." Helen spoke up. "If we lifted the curse, we would die, and if we stayed, we would live in prison till we die?"
Why do they give up so easily?
"This is insane!" Maia exclaimed.
"I can't believe it won't work..." Phoebe, who everyone filled in, commented.
"Why don't we fight back?" Ares suggested.
Finally! Someone with guts.
"That's the plan." I replied.
