I stood in the wing of the stage, my mic attached to my ear, the crowd chanting my name with an electrifying fervor. I took a deep breath, feeling the familiar surge of adrenaline coursing through me.

Glancing up at the stars visible through the open roof of the arena, I felt a pang of longing.

"Wish you were here, Mom," I muttered under my breath.

Her absence was a constant ache, but tonight, I wanted to make her proud. I squared my shoulders and stepped out onto the stage, the blinding lights and the deafening roar of the crowd hitting me all at once. I turned on my mic and waved to the audience, a wide grin spreading across my face.

"Long time no see, everyone!" I yelled, my voice amplified and echoing through the massive venue.

The response was immediate, a wave of cheers and applause that made my heart swell.

"Tonight is going to be a little different," I explained, and the crowd quieted.

"You see, this is my last solo performance." The audience gasped and started to murmur.

"I am officially joining the band Midnight Harmony. Surprise, guys!" I smiled at my friends staring at me from the front row.

"This change was prompted because my manager hates me." I glanced at Aizawa, who shook his head, and everyone laughed.

"This is not the last you will hear from me, that I promise," I yelled into the mic.

"DEKU! DEKU!" My name rang in my ears as I started singing.

Once upon a younger year
When all our shadows disappeared
The animals inside came out to play
Went face to face with all our fears
Learned our lessons through the tears
Made memories we knew would never fade

I smiled as the spotlight warmed me.

One day, my father, he told me, "Son, don't let it slip away"
He took me in his arms, I heard him say
"When you get older your wild heart will live for younger days
Think of me if ever you're afraid"

That's when I realized I was lonely. I had this huge stage to myself and no one to share it with. But that changes now, and I couldn't be happier.

He said, "One day, you'll leave this world behind
So live a life you will remember"
My father told me when I was just a child
"These are the nights that never die"

My father told me

The words were sung back to me, my fans joining my harmony. I wiped a tear from my eye. It did hurt singing songs that I didn't really feel. Like this song, for example—I hated it. I wrote it so people thought I had a happy family when I didn't.

I looked at my bandmates, locking eyes with crimson orbs. This was the last time I was pretending. When I start with them, I will sing how I actually feel. I closed my eyes and allowed the words to tumble from my lips,

"When thunderclouds start pouring down
Light a fire they can't put out
Carve your name into those shining stars"
He said, "Go venture far beyond the shores
Don't forsake this life of yours
I'll guide you home no matter where you are"

One day, my father, he told me, "Son, don't let it slip away"
When I was just a kid, I heard him say
"When you get older your wild heart will live for younger days
Think of me if ever you're afraid"

He said, "One day, you'll leave this world behind
So live a life you will remember"
My father told me when I was just a child
"These are the nights that never die"
My father told me

"These are the nights that never die"
My father told me

My father told me

As the final notes faded, I felt the weight of the performance lift off my shoulders. The crowd's applause was deafening, and I took a deep breath, savoring the moment. This was the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
