FOUR DAYS AFTER HER BIRTHDAY, Victoria and Lorenzo were sleeping peacefully in their bed. She hadn't built that pillow wall since their movie night, yet they still maintained some of the distance while sleeping. But their peace was disturbed by the ringing of Lorenzo's phone. Victoria groaned, turning on her other side and attempting to go back to sleep, but as soon as Lorenzo took the call, her own phone began vibrating with incoming texts. She opened her eyes and found her phone on her nightstand, casting a quick glance at Lorenzo.
"Mom...mom! Can you calm down and tell me what's happening?" He asked and rubbed his eyes, still half-asleep, and sat up slowly. Victoria unlocked her phone and her eyes widened at the sight of new messages from her sister. It was two in the morning, what was going on?
Gabriella: Eddie's dad called.
Gabriella: Something's wrong with Enzo's dad.
Gabriella: Tori?
Gabriella: It doesn't look good.
Gabriella: Eddie will pick up Enzo.
Victoria: I'll tell him. He's talking with his mom now.
Lorenzo ended his call with his mom and climbed out of bed. The curly-haired girl grabbed his wrist before he walked away, the sudden feeling of her warm hand making him look back at her. He almost broke down right there when he saw the worry in her green eyes. But he couldn't break down now. Not when his mom was waiting for him in the hospital. He needed to be strong and keep his emotions in check.
"Eddie is coming to pick you up," Victoria said softly, her hand still wrapped around his wrist. Lorenzo nodded as if saying 'okay'. "Can you tell me what's going on?"
"My mom couldn't tell me anything except that my dad was in the hospital and which one,"
