CALM BEFORE THE STORM

VICTORIA SAW LORENZO IN THE EVENING THE NEXT DAY, when his exhausted figure walked through the front door. She was sure he didn't get any sleep, at least for an hour or two, because of the dark circles under his eyes. So, Victoria warmed him the dinner Rosa made and sat with him while he ate and told her about the mishap with the new shipment and the idiots he needed to deal with. She couldn't lie that it was good to have Lorenzo sleeping in bed again that night. It felt...good and peaceful.
God, you sound like you're addicted to him.
Victoria scolded herself in her mind before she turned away from Lorenzo. She got comfortable and closed her eyes. Enzo was already asleep on his side of the bed and she listened to his breathing until she fell asleep.

It took them a week to get used to the new role Lorenzo had and his new work schedule. It was more chaotic than when he was only taking care of his club and a few other businesses, but eventually, they got used to it. Victoria learned how to ignore the ringing phone in the middle of the night, because some people needed their boss at night, and Enzo made his own system for answering it—he would answer the call immediately as it started ringing and would only start talking when he left the bedroom. He even had spare clothes in his home office now, so he could get ready without disturbing Victoria if people needed him to come to headquarters or somewhere else.
"You're home," it was the first thing Victoria said to Lorenzo when she came downstairs and saw him sitting in the kitchen, sipping his coffee and eating breakfast made by Rosa. She sounded surprised, because it was Friday and ten in the morning. Usually, Enzo was at work by this time.
"Well, good morning to you too," he said, turning his head to look at her, but soon a teasing smile appeared on his face. Victoria knew this smile way too well. "Oh, it's so nice to see you home, honey. I've missed you, honey," his voice became higher, trying to mock her playfully. He was trying so hard not to laugh, but when he said the last word, Enzo couldn't hold it anymore and laughed loudly.
It wasn't a hateful tease or a way to hurt her by mocking her. No, no. It was more like a friendly and funny teasing, a playful banter. Victoria tried not to smile, but the corners of her lips lifted up. They still had their moments when they argued, but it started to happen more and more less. It was nice to joke around with him like this and not be at each other's throats all the time. It made her feel like both of them were going in the right direction.
