A TWIST OF FATE

'I''I''I''I''I''I'

JOEY HELPED VICTORIA BRING HER SHOPPING BAGS INSIDE and put them in the hallway by the stairs. She tried to refuse the help because she only had four bags, but Joey insisted on it while Axel stayed outside to chat with other security guards about security and their problem. She thanked Joey, closing the front door.

A weird and bad feeling came over her for a moment when she took off her shoes, but she tried to shake it off. She was home, surrounded by security guards. Safe. Protected. Exactly like Lorenzo asked Axel. She was safe, right?

"Boss will be home soon," Joey informed Victoria after reading a text message from Lorenzo, which said he would be home in five minutes.

Victoria nodded, uttered a soft 'okay' and made her way to the living room. Lorenzo's early return was unusual, but knowing there were problems with the people who rebelled against Sacred Eight and the consul, she started to think it was serious. Too serious to ignore if Lorenzo was coming home right now and she needed to rush home too.

Victoria sat down on the couch as Joey headed towards the window. She hoped this problem with rebels was the one they could solve easily, but as they were getting more active, they attacked more frequently... The house was quiet and the curly-haired girl glanced at her bodyguard when the faint rumble of an engine broke the silence as the car rolled slowly into the driveway. Joey peeked through the gap in the curtains and then looked at Victoria.

"Boss's home," Victoria let out a sigh of relief. Yes, Lorenzo took care of the security, they had bodyguards on shifts and a high fence, but you never know what your enemies could be capable of. They could silently kill every single security guard in this place, open the gate and come inside to finish what they have started. So, it was a relief when it was Lorenzo who drove into the driveway.

Joey started to walk towards the front door to meet Lorenzo there and then join his colleagues outside, but then...Suddenly, a loud gunshot rang out from outside. Joey flung the door open so forcefully it nearly came off its hinges and dashed outside to see what was happening, his gun ready. Victoria's pulse quickened and the shouts of security guards filled her ears. Realizing she hadn't heard Lorenzo shut his car door or go inside, she leapt to her feet and hurried after Joey. It was a reckless decision, made without knowing whether it was safe or not.

Her heart was racing with a mix of fear and determination as she ran out of the house. Her breath caught in her throat at the sight before her. Joey was standing rigid, his gun gripped firmly in his hand. He was bent over Lorenzo, urging him not to close his eyes and to keep holding the pressure. Her eyes widened because her husband lay sprawled by his car, his once pristine suit jacket unbuttoned and askew, his white shirt now stained a deep crimson, clinging to his torso. Lorenzo was pressing a trembling hand against the wound in his abdomen, blood seeping through his fingers. His breaths came in shallow, ragged gasps as he struggled to stay conscious.
