Toby fell asleep watching TV, which came as a surprise to me because of his crippling insomnia. In the night, I crept around the house, setting everything in order for what's to come.

I quietly placed the bag full of medicines and a first aid kit on the counter. I held a flashlight in my teeth, shuffling through the bags and making sure everything was packed. I would hate to forget something that would be considered evidence or could be used to track my doings.

I hummed in thought, taking the flashing from my mouth and quietly switching it off. My eyes darted to the spot where Toby had hid the body. Sadly, the hiding place was flawed, from the squeak of the floorboard to not being buried far enough down.

I sighed and leaned against the counter, bracing my elbows on the edge of the marble in thought. I was debating whether to leave without Toby; then again, if Toby was found, I would be looked for next.

I bit the inside of my lip, narrowing my eyes at the rug that hid the body. I didn't leave my fingerprint on the evidence, which was good, but it was still in my fucking house. Yet at the same time, I didn't blame Toby, even if he could have buried the remains in someone else's yard.

I grabbed the bags from the counter and walked to the front door. I glanced at Toby before walking out the door. The engine of my car was running, the AC unit cooling off the summer's boiling air.

I put the bags on the floor of the backseat, then went back inside to get more bags. As I passed the couch, I lasted down at Toby's sleeping form; he looked so peaceful, and my heart ached for the killer. I took the bags from the fridge and brought them outside, loading them onto the car floor.

The trunk of my car was already packed full of emergency supplies from my last getaway, when I moved four states away from my hometown. I didn't need much, but if I was going to bring Toby, I would need more than a few things.

I sighed and closed the car door, walking back inside with a bit of haste. I walked over to Toby before forcing a smile on my face and gently shaking his shoulder.

"Come on, buddy, wake up." I said, keeping my voice low and soothing.

Toby shifted in his sleep, opening his eyes with a disgruntled look. My smile became more authentic, and I chuckled.

"We gotta go grumpy pants." I said, walking back to the kitchen and tucking my wallet and phone inside.

Toby slowly sat up, rubbing his face like a tired child. The blanket fell into his lap as he grumbled under his breath.

I walked back to be beside him before gently patting his shoulder. "You can nap in the car; make sure you take a blanket." I said, going back to my room to fetch a few things.

Toby muttered an 'okay' as he slowly woke up, still half asleep.

I walked into my room and moved through hanging shirts in my closet aside, picking out a small black safe. I sighed in relief that I remembered the safe, and I tucked it under my arm. I glanced around the room, picking out a few more things that would be good to pawn off for money before leaving the room.

Toby was waiting in the living room, wearing the blanket like a cape. His eyes were droopy, and he looked like he could have fallen asleep standing up. I pointed to a pair of sandals he could wear to get to the car.

"C'mon, sleepyhead, you can rest in the car." I reminded him, waking out the door of the house.

Toby watched me in mild confusion as to what was happening, but he didn't fight it. He walked along, following behind me before getting into the back seat of the car. He immediately laid in the backseat, closing his eyes again.

I smiled and shut the car door behind him, popping the trunk of my car. I fit the safe snuggly in between a tent and some emergency rations. The lid shut with a thunk as I closed it. I took the phone from my pocket and tossed it to be in front of my car's tire. After I finished my plan to get rid of the phone, I got into the passenger seat.

I buckled my seatbelt and adjusted my mirror to face Toby. He was snuggled in his blanket, nearly passed out already. I got into the glove box and took out a fake ID, passport, and drivers license. I checked over the date before shoving the cards into my wallet and tossing the passport and said wallet into the passenger seat.

"Okay, we're finally on the road." I sighed, shutting off the car light.

"Yay...." Toby mumbled unenthusiastically, his cheek pressed against the back seat.

I smirked slightly at his sleepy response, almost finding it cute. Almost. I turned off the headlights and coasted through the streets, using the street lights as my only light source.

Since I had no GPS, I had to figure out where I was going using the road signs. I was having a headache trying to read and remember where I was going. I had no clue where the road was taking me until I found a highway. With a sigh, I adjusted my seated position and turned on the radio, letting the soft chatter fill the ambiance of our runaway.

I leaned my head back in my seat, thinking, then glanced back at Toby through my mirror. I had one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting on the center console.

My mind went back to the story I was writing a few days ago—the one about two lovers running away together. It made my chest clench with a giddy feeling. I took a deep breath, listening to the rumble of the car on the road and Toby's soft breaths.

I guess I get to experience the last chapter of my book.

To disappear.

[Dont worry, this isn't the last chapter ;) STOP PANICKING. I'M GOING TO WRITE MORE SOON. GEE WILIKERS]
