Those few words struck a chord in my chest. I watched as Toby's breath staggered to keep up with his desperate state. Toby's eyes still brimmed with tears as he gripped my wrists, and I felt my own eyes water once again.

Without any doubt, I leaned closer until my breath dusted his lips. My hands slid down to his tainted neck, my thumb gently tracing around one of the blemishes that were my doing. It was hard to think when the rain poured down on my skull, so I did what felt right.

I pressed our lips together, squeezing my eyes shut to block out the rain and any outside influence. The kiss felt like it kindled a flame in my heart, one that I thought burned out a long time ago.

I could feel Toby kiss back just as passionately, and it was starting to grow to be an addictive feeling. I slowly parted from Toby's lips yet maintained a close enough space for it to be intimate.

"I love you too..." I whispered, taking the soggy cap from earlier and putting it back on Toby's head.

It felt like something from a romance movie, except for the fact that we were now soaking wet and cold and having clothes stick to our skin in the most uncomfortable ways possible.

I slowly let go of Toby, looking down at the hatchets that were strapped to his hips. A sudden thought came to my mind.

"How devoted are you?" I asked, glancing around even though it was hard to see through the rain.

"Devoted to what?" Toby asked, his voice a bit croaky. He wiped a hand down his face, getting rid of the droplets that covered his freckles and lashes.

"Killing people." I said, internally flinching at my own words.

Toby's lips parted slightly before his mouth drew into a thin line. He shook his head, looking like the answer was taking a big weight off his shoulders.

The answer was all I needed and had a flash of clarity. I wrapped my arms around Toby, pulling up to his feet with me.

"We have to leave. Now." I said, guiding Toby across the backyard.

He was quick to follow, holding one hand in mine. We dashed around the house, and though it wasn't exactly quiet, we got to the car easily.

I ripped the tarp off the car, letting it rest on the muddy ground. Toby opened the back door and hopped inside without any hesitation. He took off the sopping wet clothes before it got the mattress gross.

I ducked into the driver's seat, looking through the shattered windshield.

"Stupid mother fucker," I cursed under my breath, mostly directed at Liu and the others. My arm was still throbbing with a dull pain, and I realized it was all part of the stupid plan to keep me here.

The engine roared to life, and I gripped the wheel with one hand, flooring the gas pedal. The car jerked forward, sending some of the glass flying off the dashboard. Toby let out a slight grunt as he was tossed around the backseat. I squinted as rain flew into the car, swerving around trees and large rocks as my brain tried to remember where to go.

I took the glock from the waistband of my pants, tossing it into the passenger seat.

Toby's eyes widened, and he put his goggles back over his eyes, blocking out any loose glass. He sat up, pointing out the front windshield.

"There's the gravel road!" He said, holding onto the passenger seat to ground himself.

I spun the wheel with one hand, and the road crunched under the wheels, kicking up dust and small rocks. I glanced out my mirrors before hurrying up toward the main roads.

The further away from the forest, the better.

We soon made it to the highway, and I turned my flashers on. It made the lights blink as we pulled over to the side effects the road. My body was flushed with adrenaline, making my limbs shake as I set the car in park.

Toby laid back on the mattress, almost catching his breath. I pressed my good hand to my face, rubbing my eyes.

"... I hate the woods..." I mumbled, letting my head fall back onto the rest.

A few of Toby's giggles in the backseat caught my attention, and I turned to look at him. He didn't have his coat on anymore, only his muddy jeans and a wrinkled white button down.

"What are you giggling about?" I asked, throng not to let the contagious laughs show on my expression. The adrenaline in Toby's system made him twitch a little bit, making his tics more prominent.

"I wanted to leave so bad," he said, pushing back his wet hair. He sounded like he didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry.

"Well, we're not there yet." I said, watching as the rain faded to a small trickle from the clouds.

I turned off my flashers and merged back into the road, an aura of relief filling the car.

Toby sat back up, leaning his back against the car.

"Where are we going now?" He asked breathlessly, crossing his legs.

"I have to get this fixed," I replied, gesturing to all the glass. "If I don't, I'm going to lose my mind even more."

Toby chuckled, leaning his head back against the seat. He sighed, fidgeting with the mouthguard around his neck.

I guess I'm not the only one who wanted to disappear.
