His room was dark green, neat but had little bits of his personality scattered throughout it, Enne noticed as she traced a map of the districts on his wall. It was such a jarring experience for her to come from 11, where she worked at a farm harvesting crops to survive to being surrounded by the lavish decorative fruit bowls and fancy clothes. She allowed herself a brief moment to mourn her old life as she gazed at her district fondly. Enne found that she couldn't actually remember much about her past, but brushed it off as PTSD or some sort of issue brought on by the games.
"Wow" was all she could muster as she glanced around in awe
"I know it's not much but-
"No, no it's beautiful," she took a moment to look in his eyes, she walked over to Edmund and grazed his arm before quickly pulling away after realizing what she was doing.
He smiled, "So I can just uh sleep on the couch over there for now," he said gesturing at a lavish green velvet couch
"Damn" Enne let out at the pure luxury of it all, "you guys are really living it up out here huh?"
Ed scratched the back of his neck, "yea uh we're really lucky"
Enne examined the boy for a moment before sitting on the bed, "Relax you don't need to have privileged guilt, as long as you're not like burning down poor people's houses to get money, we're good"
The colour drained from Edmunds face and a pit grew in his stomach as he thought about his father's plans, "Ha.. yea.."
"Let's watch a movie or something," Enne suggested, oblivious to to internal crisis Ed was having.
"Woah wait- do you have like all of Jane Austen's novels??" Enne quickly noticed getting up and practically running to examine the books.
"Yea, my mom used to love her, when she died she left me all her books, and some trauma" the boy laughed as he picked up Pride and Prejudice.
Enne's smile faltered as she put down the pristine copy of Emma. She placed her hand gently over his as he held the book.
"I'm sorry, were you guys close?"
"Yea, before she died we were all close. My dad- he was like a completely different person back then..." He gazed fondly at a framed family photo on his desk, suddenly he shook his head as if snapping out of a trance, "Anyways! Let's go watch that movie you were talking about? How do you feel about the Pride and Prejudice? It's my favourite of the Jane Austen book to movie adaptations"
Enne looked at him for a moment, fighting back the strong urge to pull the boy into a hug. His eyes held such sadness and a depth that's magnetic to her and his lips- wait Hold Up. We are not doing that nope, you just survived a life ending event and this is what you're thinking about. Enne mentally facepalmed and tentatively sat on the bed next to him. As he pressed play she looked over and smiled while inching a little closer to him. As his pinky slowly interlocked with hers, both of their eyes remained glued to the screen while a smile played at their lips and a blush on their faces. Enne subtly glanced at him, feeling a sense of familiarity and an odd feeling of...wanting to play chess?
A distant sound of clashing of metal and yelling roared in the background, Enne looked down at a wounded soldier in her lap as a blue light glowed from within her hands and healed the soldier. Enne heard a woman scream and grabbed her bow and arrows and ran outside. All around her were mythical beings, animals and humans fighting some shadow monsters- a war it looked like? As if moving on their own, he legs pumped as she ran towards the fighting, launching arrow after arrow at the creatures.
"Enne!" A boy yelled, his voice familiar
"Enne!"
"Enne? Enne wake up" Edmund shook her awake gently, "Are you ok it sounded like you were having a nightmare?"
"Yea I'm-ok I think...it felt so real" Enne paused, "What time is it?"
"Almost 3am, you fell asleep during Emma and I didn't want to wake you," Ed looked at her with concern, "I'm gunna go sleep on the couch"
He glanced at her one more time,
"Goodnight Enne"
