"This is your room?" Nia raised an eyebrow and looked around the plain white room.
"Yea what's wrong with it?" Peter asked defensively
"It's giving asylum or like I dunno prison"
"It is not!"
"There's literally nothing in here but a bed and a wardrobe, there's not even a window!" Nia turned to face Peter, "blink twice if you're being held hostage"
Peter rolled his eyes and pushed past her into his room and sat on the bed.
"I am not being held hostage and if you don't like it you can find somewhere else to sleep"

Nia groaned internally and sat on the bed with him, she felt that strong urge that seemed to be pulling her towards him again, what is up with me, I mean yea he's kinda cute I guess... I mean definitely more than cute...kinda hot to be completely honest
"What are you staring at me for" Peter asked suddenly, snapping her out of her trance. She felt her cheeks heat up at the realization of her thoughts
"None of your business" she answered quickly and looked away.
Peter smirked, as he leaned closer to her, they're noses practically touching. Her breath hitched, What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck Nia's internal monologue repeated inside her head. She felt his arm move past her, and suddenly he was back on the other side of the bed holding the book that was previously on the nightstand behind her. She squinted at him as he looked back at her with a grin. She rolled her eyes and decided she could not stand this man.
"Is that a romance novel?" She asked just now looking at the book he was reading, the cover portraying a couple embracing on the beach.
Peter turned red "It's uh Susan's"
"But it's in your room?"
"She left it here"
"But your reading it right now, it looks like your almost halfway through"
"Shut it" Peter closed the book and shoved the book in one of his drawers as Nia stifled her laughter.
"No no by all means go ahead, who am I to judge" Nia laid on her side facing him with a shit eating grin, "I heard they do it on the beach in that one" she made up and turned away from him to go to sleep.
Peter groaned, "Is it too late to send you back into the games"
"Ha. Ha. Very funny. I'd like to see you in there, prolly wouldn't last a minute" Nia said, she suddenly took in how much the games weighed on her. She tried to dissociate from what she had seen and done in the arena, but now that the games and the chaos following had eased up a little, the memories came flooding back. People that she had killed. The girl from 2, 18 years old I think. The girl from 4, and the boy from 6, they were together. Cute couple. Dead. Nia sighed as the guilt set in, swallowing the lump that was forming at her throat and blinking away the tears that threatened to spill she stared at the popcorn ceiling of this plain room. God this room sucks.
Peter examined her, he turned also facing the ceiling. Slowing he moved his hand over to hers, as they touched, both felt a wave of strong emotions, annoyance, anger, comfort, attraction, bliss, safety, devastation, pain, love- but as quick as it came, it left. They faced each other, Peter unsure of what just happened and if she felt it too decided not to bring it up, "You didn't have a choice," he said instead, returning to the topic at hand. She looked away.
Without thinking he gently took her chin in his hand and guided her back to face him, "the games- this whole society, it pits the districts against each other in order for the rich to stay rich and the poor to stay poor" he thinks back to his fathers plan, he wants to tell her but he knows she'll hate him- them all for it. Her and Enne came from those districts that was on his fathers hit list- Enne's district was second on that list for fucks sake. He sighs in frustration, "Sometimes- Even though you so desperately want things to change for the better- there's nothing you can do but sit back and watch."
"That's not necessarily true," Nia whispered running her fingers across his hand, "We have the ability to make choices. Whether we do something or not, we make a choice then have to live with the outcomes."

Both go quiet.

Nia's thoughts were racing at what felt like 1000 miles an hour. Guilt filled her thoughts about her actions during the games. She knows it was to protect her and Enne but still, she could've done so many things differently. What scared her was the thrill she got. It awoke a feeling inside her, a bloodlust of sorts. It felt like a part of her but also like a whole separate being. She felt like a monster. Actions and it's consequences, she thought in dismay.

Peter starting thinking about his choice to standby and do nothing while his father plans to destroy districts, and he wasn't speaking up because.. because what? He was scared? He felt useless and cowardly, he knows he should act but he couldn't bring himself to face his father. He was scared and he didn't know what to do. "Actions and its consequences" he said quietly out loud.
