Peter sat against the wall where Nia last left him. Her and Enne packed and left soon after, Ed and Susan following close behind. No one said a word as they left, Ed and Susan knew about their father's plans for the poor districts but not about Laurie's idea.
Ed gave him a cold glare as he walked out, his hand around Enne protectively. Susan gave him one last glance of disappointment and pity, "I'll pick up Lucy from school, we won't tell her what happened but she's not staying here."
Peter stared blankly ahead as he heard the door shut behind them. His tears dried on his face and all that was left was a growing empty feeling.
Beside him his phone screen lit up, the caller ID too bright for his tired eyes, Laurie.

Nia unlocked the door to their victor house, her and Enne haven't been in here since they did promo after they won the games. She remembered how excited they were to have their own merch, she sighed reaching for Enne's hand.
"This sucks" she muttered as they walked through the empty house.
"Hey it's not so bad..."
Nia turned to Enne confused, "How is it not bad?"
"We can decorate, and we have money to buy useless things to make us happy"
"Huh, I guess" Nia shrugged
"Ed and Susan should be back from picking up Lucy soon, I can't even imagine how they feel"
"Knowing their brother is a horrible terrible no good piece of shit? Ya that's gotta hurt" Nia scoffed
"Hey, don't be too hard on him-
"He wanted to Kill Us"
"He didn't want to kill us, his girlfriend did"
"Yea that makes it much better thank you"
Enne laughed a little, she wrapped her arm around Nia's shoulder. "We'll be ok, we always are"
Nia's phone ringing startled both of them, 'smooth operator' cutting the gloomy atmosphere.
"It's Finnick, gotta take this, can you order a pizza or something we don't have anything for dinner"
Enne nodded as Nia left the room.

"How're you feeling with all this going on?" Finnick asked, concern laced in his voice
"Ah well, you knowww"
"Ya I know. Listen, I know it's not the best time but... we should talk."
"Finnnnn"
"I know I know, but we have more info about that device we kept hearing about"
Nia groaned and rested her head on the wall, "yea.. yea call Haymitch I'll be there in 10"

"Hey Enne I gotta go meet up with Fin and Haymitch, I'll be back soon"
"Nia..."
"I know I know, I'll be quick I promise"
"And safe"
"Ya ya"
Nia waved as she left

"So the device...is a mind control chip?"
"We think so" Finnick nodded, "from what I heard it temporarily stops their memory or convinces them not to do anything to fight against it? It leaves them having a foggy memory of their actions but they still know what they did. We're not sure yet, but we know they're trying to make a permanent version"
Nia sat back in her chair, "damn"
"This just keeps getting worse" Haymitch finished off his whiskey, "I think that's enough for today" he examined Nia's sullen face as he patted her back and got up.
"We'll meet up next Wednesday to see the trial of it and go from there, get some sleep you look like shit."
"Thanks" Nia rolled her eyes and got up as well.
Finnick got up as well, gently taking her elbow, "wait, walk with me for a sec"
Nia followed as they headed towards her house, "what's up"
"I'm going back to my district for a bit, Annie, Annie Cresta... she's not doing well I need to be with her... I'm sorry"
Nia smiled slightly and nudged him, "you dumping me Odair?"
"Oh no I would never, I'm just...moving out of the way"
Nia looked at him confused, "Huh?"
"You'll see, just give it time" he grinned his Cheshire smile and turned to leave.
"What the fuck was that all about" she muttered to herself as she headed home.

"Hey guys I'm home- Oh what the Fuck?"
Nia walked in to open pizza boxes, some empty some full and her four friends wearing dinosaur onesies and dancing and singing, or more like screaming to Taylor Swift's All too Well 10 minute version.
Enne and Lucy skipped over as Nia joined in laughing
"AAAAAND YOU CALL ME UP AGAIN JUST TO BREAK ME LIKE A PROMISE SO CASUALLY CRUEL IN THE NAME OF BEING HONEST"

They all screamed and jumped together letting out all their emotions. By the end they had tears of sadness and laughter running down their faces. Nia changed into her designated dinosaur onesie, an orange sparkly raptor, and they all huddled on the couch turning on that dumb reality show that they know is stupid but are invested.
