chapter one

| loyalty (n): the quality of being loyal; a strong feeling of support or alliance

"ALIX! C'mon, we're going to be late!"

Alixandra Mina Mikaelson rolled her eyes as she stuffed the purple piece of paper into her backpack without a care in the world, trying desperately to ignore the impatient groans she was hearing from her best friend that just so happened to be her favorite cousin. Groaning, she winced as someone tugged at her arm.

"Akari, stop," she whined, tugging her arm out of her cousin's hold effortlessly. As she started to sling her dark, nature-green-colored backpack over her shoulders, she looked at her cousin's pouty face. But to be frank, she couldn't make herself care.

Akari Corretta Mikaelson had kept up her throughout the night, picking out outfits and planning, in clear detail, exactly how their day would go. The girl didn't just have a planner, no, she had a map.

A literal map.

The youngest daughter of Mina Bennett-Mikaelson and Elijah Mikaelson was a control freak; she couldn't help it.

The first obvious sign is how her thick, shiny black coils were in a loose afro, forcibly being contained by a braid that stretched from one side to the other. Her clothes were smooth and ironed and all of her jewelry didn't have a speck of rust on them.

She wore silver rings on nearly every finger, and large silver hoops hung from her ears. As the Mikaelson Academy uniform clung to her body, her favorite pair of white Jordan's clung to her toes, matching the light white cardigan hanging from her shoulders.

Alixandra, on the other hand, was just simply not feeling the whole school thing today. Her outfit, quite literally, showed that. She wrapped her black hoodie around her waist, matching perfectly with the black uniform skirt she was wearing. That was paired with a white collared shirt with a blue vest over it. A combination that took about three minutes to find in her avalanche of unfolded clothes sitting on her floor.

Oh, and her socks were mix-match.

Nevertheless, Alixandra dusted herself off. Her cousin's planning was starting to feel a bit suffocating, but she ignored her.

It was just the first day back.

She couldn't have an attitude already.

The Mikaelson Academy for Supernaturals had just reopened from their previously closed school from being on Spring Break holiday. While all students had a choice whether they wanted to stay on campus or to go home, most of them chose to stay.

Except for the Mikaelsons.

The two cousins had opted to return home to their families, each of them eager to see their parents and siblings they didn't get the opportunity to see year-round. As usual, after many lectures from their parents about behavior and grades, the two cousins were quite excited to return to their campus.

Unfortunately for Akari, of course, Alixandra acted the complete opposite.

"I will not stop," Akari denied. Linking arms with her cousin, she heard Alixandra groan before using her shoulder as a pillow as they walked. Her eyes looked up to the building before them. "We are walking into our last two months of school before we are juniors. This is about to be awesome."
