Chapter Four
| risk (n): a situation involving exposure to danger |
"AND HOW ARE CLASSES?"
Alixandra sat down, slumped into the brown, leather recliner chair. Her eyes scanned over her surroundings, noting the self-help charts on the wall she had seen over a dozen times. The paintings on the wall were all about mental health and wellness.
"They're good."
Mental health psychologist and certified psychologist Dr. Elisa Monroe took a deep breath as she pushed her glass up to the top of her head. "Alixandra," She scolded softly. "The point of our sessions is so that you talk through what you're feeling."
"I'm not feeling anything," Alixandra confessed. "I'm not sure why we're here."
Dr. Monroe only chuckled. "We've been here for years and will remain here until you no longer need me."
Alixandra was about to say something smart back until she saw her counselor/therapist scribbling something down on that notebook. Alix absolutely hated when the older witch would do that, especially without telling her what it said. "I'm good. Can I go to lunch?"
"How's your experience with our newest student?" She asked, leaning back, tossing her black hair over her shoulder. "Mr. Rafael Waithe. I saw you two talking. Perhaps, we might be seeing a new friend—"
Coughing, the young tribrid cleared her throat. She had thought about this all day yesterday, and finally, she had come up with a conclusion. "It was a mistake."
Dr. Monroe paused but then nodded. "And why is that?"
Sitting back, Alixandra's mind blanked as she closed her eyes, thinking of when he pulled her close to him. Sucking in a breath, she opened her eyes. "He's too... pure. I'm dangerous. That's not a good mix," She said simply as if that one answer solved all parts of every question.
"You think you'll hurt him?"
Alixandra nodded stiffly. "I have to stay away or else someone will get hurt. Someone always gets hurt."
The psychologist took her glasses off of her face. "You haven't had an episode in months, Alixandra. You are improving."
Unconsciously, Alixandra fiddled with the necklace around her neck. Looking up at the woman, she shifted in her seat, ready for this hour's session to be over with. "We both know why I haven't had an episode."
"Although I applaud your efforts to remain cautious," Dr. Elisa Monroe started, writing something else on her tablet. "Alixandra, I do believe that it is time you started to heal from—"
"I killed someone," Alixandra snapped, the hair on the back of her neck standing. "I was twelve, and within seconds of my episode, I had taken a life. I will start to heal when I know that girl's soul is at peace."
Dr. Monroe frowned. "But you are not the only person at this school to take a life," she confessed. "It is the requirement to trigger the werewolf curse. Everyone in this school has something about them that makes them dark or evil to the human world. Are you saying that you believe you are an exception?"
"I have to have more control than everyone else," Alixandra said matter of factly. "I—"
Not allowing her to finish her though, the therapist continued. "A new friendship might be beneficial to you, Alixandra. Miss. Mikaelson has been in your life for the last six years, and Mr. Lewison has been your best friend since your mother founded this school. Mr. Waithe may open a new door of—"
