Chapter Two
| acceptance (n): the action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered. |
THE Mikaelson Academy was normally considered a place of peace, a place where students could go to learn despite the differences that made them threats to the humans who occupied the earth.
Dr. Erikson Bennett, the headmaster, prided himself in ensuring that none of his students felt uneasy in the walls of his school. His background in his family allowed him to know the agony one could feel to be uncomfortable in a place they had to be.
However, his office did not currently reciprocate the expectation of comfort he had put into his school. While he had been given a heads-up about his newest visitors, he had no way of knowing about any of the tension that would follow.
"Elena," Bonnie Bennett spoke, an edge appearing in her voice that she hadn't had to use in quite some time. As she stared at her former friend, a person she hadn't seen since her daughter was four, she couldn't help but feel tense.
And no one wanted a tense Bennett witch.
"Bonnie," The vampire countered, her voice softer. Elena Gilbert-Salvatore could feel the anger seep into the room.
"I do not understand," Klaus growled, anger trembling through his voice. "Why are you all in my school?"
A new, softer voice answered the question. "Because we need help, Klaus."
Mina Bennett, the only heretic in the room, sucked in a breath. She looked around the room, standing up as she did. Inside Erikson's office were four people she never thought she would ever have to see again. "There's nothing we could possibly help you with."
"Bonnie—"
The Queen of the Bennett coven shook her head, taking a step back as the blonde in front of her took one closer. "Caroline," she mumbled. "Mina's right; I can't help you."
Damon Salvatore was the next to step up, slightly moving past Erikson's desk. The headmaster, who obviously didn't know the history of the people in this room, stayed seated behind his desk, only here because technically he had to be. "Bon-Bon—"
All of a sudden, a stream of magic erupted, grabbing the Salvatore by his throat. As the forever young vampire gasped for air, clutching his throat, he fell to his knees. His hands shot out for help as his wife kneeled next to him. Looking up in disbelief, Elena shivered. "B—Bonnie, stop!" She spluttered.
"Call me that again, and I will rip out your vocal cords," She promised with a scowl. A chill ran down her spine as that nickname forced her to think of everything she endured.
Whether it was over a decade ago didn't matter to her. Those scars still ran too deep and she refused to let Damon Salvatore send her back into a spiral.
"Bonnie," Alaric started, lifting his hands in surrender when he saw Klaus's golden eyes land on him. The Saltzman noticed how Bonnie looked at Damon and, contrary to the beliefs of the Mikaelsons in the room, they came in peace. "The Salvatore School is facing some problems right now."
With that, Erikson Bennett sat up, grabbing a pen and a sticky note in case he needed it. "Your school? What's happening?" He wondered aloud. To him, all he was here for was the kids. That's why Bonnie knew he was the perfect choice for headmaster when she first offered the job 17 years ago.
"I'm sorry," Mina apologized halfheartedly before taking a step toward her cousin defensively. "We don't care about your school."
"Cousin," The headmaster of Mikaelson Academy soothed. "We have a duty to the children. Please," He nodded, his eyes softly focused on Alaric Saltzman. "continue."
