I took off speed-walking down to Vaughan's office. Nearing the large doors, I briefly remembered the last time I'd been here. Just as the memory of me flinging open the doors flashed across my mind, the door was hurriedly pulled open, and out walked a flustered looking Beta Alister.

He spotted me coming and drew to an immediate stop. Caught off guard, he failed to mask the nervous expression on his face. He soon got a grip of himself and wiped the look clean, replacing it with a calm expression. A part of me instantly grew a bit suspicious.

He drew level with me, flashing one of his calm, good natured smiles, his blond locks falling over bright green eyes. He was handsome. I realized this was the first time I was actually looking at him, and I had to admit, he had a nice smile. I also had to admit, the resemblance between him and Winifred was stark.

"Miss Hilda, what brings you here to the Alpha's office?" he asked.

I casted my gaze around. "I'm... Looking for the Alpha."

He appeared interested. "Oh, he's not around at the moment, but may I know why you're looking for him?"

No, you may not, I wanted to say, but ended up replying, "I just wanted to have a little talk with him, nothing serious."

"Ah," he intoned, looking at me closely.

Using my middle finger, I tucked my hair behind my ear. Wasn't I the one meant to be looking at him like that way... Suspiciously. "Okay then," I said. "Mind telling me where he is exactly?"

"With Mrs Bawel, the Seer."

"Ah, okay...thanks a lot." With that I turned away and walked off. As I went, his gaze was like a brand on my back.

Out in the open, I spotted some werewolves milling about. Although, because of how late it was getting, there were just a few out. At a distance I sighted a couple coming from a run in the forests. They changed into their human forms behind a tree and I felt something in my chest squeeze. I would never get to experience that with Vaughan, never get to run beside him in my wolf form.

Through the wide entrance of the Seer's cave, light peeked out, illuminating the opening with a golden hue.

I held some broad leaves away from me as I went on, maneuvering through tree branches to get to the cavern.

On entering into the cave, I spotted Vaughan seated opposite the Seer, cross-legged. He was dressed in a pair of faded blue jeans and a plain T-shirt. But still, he managed to look like a million bucks.

"I've figured out where the location is," I announced. Queensland.

Vaughan murmured under his breath, "Took you long enough."

"What do you mean? Have you guys found the place already?"

The Seer answered, "Yes, Vaughan did, and just this afternoon."

And he didn't think it was necessary to tell me. I went forward and sat on the cold floors. Immediately my butt hit the ground, strategies started getting thrown around.

"Time is the essence. A flight from here to Queensland would be just two h--"

Miss Bawel interrupted him, "Ah, but you both can't travel by air, not when Vladimir and his entire coven can easily attack you there. It is best you use land."

"Then," Vaughan continued, "that way we'd be able to fend them off if and when they decide to attack us. Then we'd just have to evade them long enough to find this Link, and get him on our side."

"Him?" I blurted out without thinking. When Vaughan's sharp grey eyes met mine, I flushed, stuttering out, "I m-mean the Link could be a girl."

A pause. Vaughan bit out, "And this matters right now?"
