We took off running into the main hall.

Inside was a mad house. In a bid to run out of the room unscathed, shrieking men and women overturned tables filled with food and drinks, shattering glasses and spilling colourful liquids all around.

"Look out!" Vaughan pulled me to him when a huge man slid on the wet tiles and came hurtling towards my direction, arms flailing, mouth opened wide in a yell.

While the crowd ran away from the source of the scream, I and Vaughan ran towards it, speeding into a corner that led out back. Far off into the night, we spotted two people struggling. A thin woman against a giant of a man

My blood ran cold when his fangs extended and he sank them into her neck to her loud shrieks. She soon fell limp in his arms, and the man, injured, hobbled towards his car. Vaughan started to run then, changing into his wolf mid air.

Just as the vampire made a hasty reverse with his car, Vaughan's wolf landed on the windscreen, eliciting a loud cracking sound.

The vampire tried to shake him off, jerking the car this way and that, but he didn't budge, raising his extended claws he used it to hit the screen in rapid successions, cutting a jagged hole through the glass.

With a hiss the vampire stuck out his body through that hole now, his black claws extending dangerously. With a deadly swipe of his hand, he sunk those claws into Vaughan's wolf, rendering him motionless for a brief moment.

My heart stilled for an awful beat, and I was rushing over to the car in a split second. But I was too late. The vampire had managed to shove Vaughan's form away from his car, and was now speeding out of the grounds, uncaring for the screaming humans he bumped into on his way out.

Dropping to my knees before him, I ran my hands through his black fur. "Vaughan," my voice sounded panicked. "Are you okay?"

He changed back, clutching his sides. Standing above me, he said, "Come on. We've got to follow him."

Holding his gaze, I hesitated for a while before giving a resolute nod, following him back to his car. I waited for him to change into another pair of clothes before getting in.

When he'd settled himself into his seat, he dug into another compartment and withdrew a semi-automatic gun. Throwing it onto my laps, he pulled out of the lot and was speeding down the road in an instant. "You know how to use a gun, right?"

The weapon felt cold in my hands. Staring down at it, I swallowed. "Y-yeah, I--"

"Good," he said, swerving into an empty route. "Because you'd need it, princess."

"There!" I said after a short while, staring at familiar number plates. "That's his car."

Vaughan followed the speeding SUV, keeping him in sight even when traffic threatened to get in the way. After a long while we were led into a dark, dirty lane.

Bursting out into an open trail, we were greeted with several rundown apartments. Vaughan slowed when he noticed the vampire doing the same. Keeping his distance now, he watched as the vampire parked in front of a large, abandoned warehouse, looking around before dragging out the unconscious woman.

Vaughan killed the engine. "Stay here," he told me.

I made to protest. "But I--"

"No," he gritted out firmly. "I won't be able to focus knowing you could be in danger."

When he started to get out of the car, I expelled a breath, calling, "Vaughan."

He paused and then turned to face me.
