Akira's death hit the Sohma family hard, at his funeral young Akito was forced to make a speech as Ren refused to show. Many members of the family enjoyed Akira's presence as he was a kind, fair, and loving head of the family.
However, after his passing Ren became infuriated. She had previously hated Akito for being the centre of Akira's attention but now, Akito was the centre of the whole family's attention as she became the head of the family. In turn, Ren became aggressive. She aims to hurt Akito and to which infuriated me causing me to step in and Ren's aggression would turn to me.
I didn't like pain of course, while I may not die due to injury does not mean they can not affect me. Just as people can feel hunger or thirst, I too can feel pain, and hunger and thirst. Just as a normal person I needed to eat, drink and sleep in order to ensure I was healthy. I could even grow ill if I am not careful. While I may be immortal, I am not invincible.
Akito and I were enjoying some quiet time together. I was reading the newspaper while drinking my tea while Akito observed the birds on the deck as she drank hers. The wind chimes tinged calmingly as the soft spring breeze blew across the courtyard. It was nice. Hopefully Hitomi will bring lunch soon, I just hope it's not chicken miso again. I folded my newspaper and placed it on the table as I sip at my tea.
Of course though the peace didn't last. The door to Akito's room slid open with a bang and stood in the doorway was a manic Ren.
I didn't even glance at her as I spoke, "Hello, Ren-san, is there something I can help you with?"
Ren proceeded into the room, either ignoring my greeting or not hearing it in the first place, and marched up to Akito who was sitting wide eyed looking at her mother.
"You filthy brat! You took everything from me! You took Akira away from me! You took my life from me! You're treated like royalty while I'm forgotten about!" She approached the child.
It was hard for me to watch, my greatest friend, God, was being verbally abused by a mere mortal. In any other case I would have killed Ren on the spot but I couldn't. I swore I would never again take a life before their time had come to its fated end. Ren wouldn't be an exception. Even so I can't harm Sohma's, especially Akito's mother. No matter how cruel she may be Akito still needs her and Akira before he died asked me to try and help Ren, and while all my attempts had so far been unsuccessful I owed it to Akira to keep trying. I could only step between Ren and Akito if Ren actively harms Akito.
I watch the woman approach her daughter. "You useless child, what type of God are you meant to be? You need to stop messing around with birds. Who will follow a God who is as weak as you?" Ren spat onto the deck in front of Akito's knees. "Pathetic. Those monstrous Zodiac's will never see you as their God, just a scared, weak little girl." She wrinkled her nose when she said girl.
"They will see me as their God." Akito said, standing up from the deck. "I am not weak, I am God."
Ren slapped Akito, sending her fraile form to the deck. This had me up and standing between Ren and Akito. "That's enough Ren." I said firmly.
This had Ren's rage built even more. "So God's little pet came to the rescue. If you're not weak, Akito, why must Death save you?!"
Ren looked around my form to glare at Akito who was still lying on the floor. In response I spread my wings to block Ren's view of Akito. This causes Ren to screech like a banshee as she claws at my wing. Her nails dig into my flesh as she rips out clumps of feathers. It hurts like hell but I keep my stoney expression. As Ren continues to claw at my wing I turn to Akito, a scratch was across her cheek where Ren's ring cut, "Akito, can you go to Hatori's house and inform his father what is occuring for me?" I smile slightly at the girl.
