How could I have been so stupid? I’d walked into school looking all loved up with Alex and had completely forgotten about Brian! I’m such an idiot.

“What’s going on?” he asked looking really pissed.  His face was getting slightly redder and was that hurt I saw flash across his eyes?

“Brian, it’s not what it looks like, please let me explain…” he stormed off and I didn’t even hesitate to chase after him. I completely forgot about Alex and ran after Brian until we ended up in the forest behind the school.

He had his back to me and was pacing around. I put my hands on my knees and tried to catch my breath. He sure was a fast runner… He turned around and his piercing blue eyes caught me slightly off guard. His messy blonde hair was falling in his eyes but he didn’t seem to care.

“You know, when you didn’t call or text me back last night I was a little hurt but I just assumed you were busy or something and tried not to think too much of it. But now I see. You were with him, weren’t you? I know we just met and all but I thought we had some sort of connection. I thought you felt it too. Clearly I was wrong…”  He didn’t even sound mad anymore. Just hurt and slightly disappointed.

“You’ve got it all wrong; it’s not like that all. I was just having a rough morning and Alex was there. I do feel the connection. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before.”

“But…”

I cut him off before he had a chance to finish, “No buts.” And with that, I did something I never normally would have done. I closed the distance between us, put my hands on his cheeks and pulled his head towards mine until our lips crashed together. My mouth was on fire. I burned for him. I pulled him closer and tangled my hands in his hair, I wanted more of him. So much more. I was filled with pure desire and lust. But Brian pulled away and our kiss was cut short. I pouted and looked up at him like a little puppy. His lips were slightly red from the intensity of our kiss and I couldn’t help but think how adorable he looked. A huge grin sprawled across his face as he looked down at me.

“As much as I would love to stay and do this, we should really get to class. I think the bells about to go.” I bobbed my head up and down in agreement and we traipsed back to the front of the school. Brian entwined our hands on the way back and I couldn’t stop the redness that filled my cheeks. I bit my lip and looked down at the ground to try and hide it but he still noticed. He teased me and I gave him a playful shove in return. We continued messing around and nudging one another the whole way back. The whole thing was just so relaxed and comfortable.

We walked through the main doors and just as we did the bell went for first period. Brian walked me to my locker, not once letting go of my hand regardless of some of the weird looks we were getting. It was mainly from the girls in his year. I guess they were either jealous he was with someone younger or they saw me walking into school with Alex, and by some of the looks I was getting I think it was the latter. They were all looking at me as if I was some sort of slut and were rolling their eyes. Like they were any better… I just shrugged it off because it didn’t really bother me that much; it was only a few of the girls.

I grabbed my books out my locker and turned to Brian. I frowned as I realised I’d have to go to class now and he gave me a kiss on the cheek. “I’ll see you at lunch.”

“You better save me a seat.”

“You betcha.” And then he made his way to class, but not before turning around and flashing me his million dollar smile that gave me goose bumps all over.

It was only half an hour left till lunch and I was passed half way through double geography. I’d been here for nearly an hour listening to Mr Fitz drone on and on about glaciers, I was getting super bored. There was only so much I could take of glaciated upland areas before I wanted to shoot somebody. I started doodling on my jotter and just zoned out. I could copy someone else’s notes later if I had to.

I started day dreaming. I was fantasising about Brian. About our kiss. My lips tingled whenever I thought about that and I couldn’t help but smile to myself. He was just too perfect. Everything from his sandy blonde hair, to his tanned body to his muscular physique was just flawless. And then there was his smile. That could make even the ice queen melt. It was so warm and kind, and his teeth were so perfect and white, I swear they even sparkle!

But then those never ending pools of chocolate popped into my head… Alex. I hadn’t thought about him since this morning. What about our kiss? Would he be mad I kissed Brian too? Or did our kiss mean nothing to him? It was all starting to get quite complex and I couldn’t wrap my head around it all. I wanted answers to all my questions. I wanted to know why he kissed me. What it meant to him. Why I kissed Brian. Why I felt the way I did. I wanted, no I needed, to know everything. I was working myself into a frenzy but before I had time to start panicking, the bell went, ripping me out of my fantasy world and signalling it was time for lunch. And that meant time to see Brian. And Alex.

 *******************************************************************

I walked into the cafeteria and started peering through the crowds for any sign of Brian. I was met with endless pairs of blue eyes, but none were his. I was about to give up when I saw someone’s short, wavy dark brown hair. I knew straight away it was Alex. I’d know that hair anywhere. I didn’t even think. I just walked towards him and the group of guys he was sitting with. They were all in hysterics over something one of the guys with longish jet black hair was saying. I think his name was Jake? I went over to Alex and cleared my throat loudly to catch his attention.

“Oh hey, Lucy. What’s up?”

“I was just looking for Brian, have you seen him?” There was a look of disappoint in his eyes but he covered it up almost instantly.

“Yea, he’ll be over in a minute. Why don’t you pull up a chair?”

I grabbed one of the seats from the nearest table and put it down next to Alex. He smiled before turning to the rest of the table, “You guys remember Lucy from yesterday, right?” he asked nodding towards me. There were a few nods and some mumbled “Hey Lucy’s” but I didn’t say anything. I just made small talk with Alex for a few minutes while we waited for Brian.

We were in the middle of talking about the game on Friday when a pair of arms snaked around my neck and soft lips pressed against my cheek. “Hey beautiful, sorry I’m late.” Brian whispered into my ear. His breath was tickly and I giggled a bit. Brian let me go and stood up before going over to Alex and doing some weird handshake thing with him, “Hey, wassup man?”

“Um hey?” Alex said with a slightly confused look. He kept looking from me to Brian. Oh god. This wouldn’t go well, I could just sense it. “Is there something going on here that I don’t know about?” Alex said motioning between the two of us.

I opened my mouth to speak but Brian jumped straight in, “Well um, yea, sort of. There’s nothing official going on… yet.”

Brian looked down at me with a hopeful look on his face. But I didn’t even notice. All I could look at was Alex. The look on Alex’s face really pulled at my heart. I felt an overwhelming amount of guilt but I tried to cover it up. I didn’t want Brian to think there was something going on between us. That would just mess things up completely.

“Oh, I see.” And with that, Alex stood up and left. I wanted to go after him and explain myself. I really did. But I just didn’t know what to tell him. I looked after him and I continued to stare at the door even after he’d gone until something blocked my vision. Brian sat down in Alex’s seat and had turned to face me.

“So what do you say, Lucy?”

“About what?”

“Do you wanna make this official? Will you be my girlfriend?” I froze.
