I tapped my foot impatiently hoping that the bell would ring. My stomach wouldn’t stop grumbling. I was so hungry! I really wished the bell would go for lunch. Ughhh. I looked up at the clock. Just under three minutes to go. I stared and stared at it. The hand just moved so slowly though. Two minutes to go. I kept watching it. I looked away for a minute and then looked back up again. Turns out only a few seconds had passed. I watched the clock again. Only a minute to go. Ugh, move faster! I started counting down the seconds just to make the time pass faster. I packed up all my stuff and checked the clock again. The bell would be going literally any second. Five, four, three, two, one… Brrrrriiiiiinnggggggg! I shot up like a rocket and made a bee line for the door. It was pizza day today and I could practically hear the pizzas calling my name. I swiftly made my way to my locker, chucked my books in and then continued on my journey to the dining hall. I was one of the first there. Score! That meant no waiting in long queues and nice, hot pizza. Oh yesss.

Within minutes I had bought my food and was making my way to our usual table. I saw a few girls sitting there and sat next to Chloe. She was pretty upbeat and had long, straight, jet black hair and emerald green eyes. We weren’t particularly close but we were still friends. She was great for chatting to and we made small talk until Sophie arrived and sat down opposite me.

“So Lucy, do you have any plans for this weekend?” she asked with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

“Oh my god, is it Friday today?!”

“Yea, how could you forget?” she said giggling a bit.

“Oops…” I guess all my worrying about Alex had made me lose track of the date. Speaking of Alex, I wonder where he was. I hadn’t seen him all day. I craned my neck up in attempt to try spot him.

“Yo, earth to Lucy!” Sophie said while snapping her fingers in my face. I quickly shook my head and turned my attention back to her. “So are you free this weekend or…?”

“Um I guess so, why?”

“Wellllll, since it’s Ally’s birthday this weekend and all, Lauren and I decided we should throw a surprise party for her tomorrow night and I was hoping you would come?” Ally was in the year above but she was pretty close with Sophie and Lauren. I didn’t really like her as much but she was tolerable.

“No way! You know I hate parties!”

“Oh come on! Pleaseeee? You’re sixteen years old, live a little! Besides after the week you’ve had don’t you just want to let your hair down and get totally wasted?” I could always count on Sophie to talk me into doing something I didn’t want to do. Getting drunk of my ass sounded pretty good to me right now.

“I’ll think about it…”

Sophie didn’t even hesitate. She stretched right across the table and threw her arms around my neck squeezing me into a kind of awkward hug while squealing “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” over and over again.

“Yea, yea. Whatever. Can Brian come?”

“Well since Ally’s in the year above, we invited her whole year so Brian’s already invited.”

I gulped. That meant Alex was invited too. But before I could dwell on it too much, I saw a certain someone with tanned skin, ruffled sandy blonde hair and a perfect smile striding towards me. Brian sat in the empty seat next to me before kissing my cheek and murmuring a “Hey beautiful” in my ear. It caused shivers to run down my spine. I glanced up into his stormy blue eyes and couldn’t help but smile. We just sat there looking into each other’s eyes for a few minutes and I just got completely lost in the moment. When I finally forced myself to tear my eyes away, I turned back to face Sophie and we continued to chat about the party. Brian said he was up for it and would even pick us up! It was too sweet. The conversation continued to flow and before I knew it there was only ten minutes left of lunch. I excused myself and got up to the bathroom before the bell rang.
