There are many mysterious things that are just normally accepted among humans as their everyday part of life.
Dreams are one among such mysterious things.
There are many possible theories of the reasons behind dreaming, but none are definite proofs. Despite such advancements in human civilization and scientific fields, dreams continue to remain a mystery.

And maybe it will remain to be so, until the end of time.

Academy city of western Tokyo, composed of 23 districts, the scientific forefront of the world, has advanced too much. They say if the world remains at present, the Academy city is in the future. That's how much advanced they are in the scientific field and research. You will find things unimaginable, just being a normal sight in there.
Automatic cleaner robots, guard robots, and helper robots, these are just the very basic parts of everyday life.
Supercomputers capable of predicting the weather in advance with nigh-perfect accuracy?
You got it.
Superhumans capable of doing things that are otherwise not possible without specialised machines?
You name it, the city has them.

And they are not necessarily even a rare sight!

Let's talk more about them, then.

Espers. The 'proudest' creation of Academy city, are such superhumans, mostly teens. They are capable of doing things that may seem supernatural, through the sheer power of calculation.

Science!

Among the espers, there are those who are exceptionally stronger, better, and more capable than the rest. Being able to outmatch specialised supercomputers in calculation prowess and achieving things that are not imaginable by normal human beings, most espers, even.

Level 5.

The highest rank among Academy City espers. The pinnacle of scientific creation.

There are 7 such espers in Academy City, and most probably, the world. Each of them capable of achieving unimaginable things.

Sogiita Gunha, rank 7.
Aihana Etsu, rank 6.
Shokuhou Misaki, rank 5.
Mugino Shizuri, rank 4.
Misaka Mikoto, rank 3.
Kakine Teitoku, rank 2.
Accelerator, rank 1.

The 7 level 5s, while still young, have already seen many things, and have gone through various stages of their life.
They are more or less acquainted with each other, and have their own different views on things.
They are by no means a group of friends, though. But depending on the situation, they might help one another out.

And the opposite is true, too.

The city, located on the west side of Tokyo, covered by walls, is divided into 23 districts, known as school districts. Generally, each districts specialise in different sectors, and are focused on those things more.

Family side. An apartment complex found in school district 7, or 7th district of Academy city. As its name suggests, it's several large buildings with numerous apartments made for residence.

Located on the 13th floor in one of the buildings, is an apartment named "Yomikawa Residence."

The owner, Yomikawa Aiho, unmarried, is a P.E. teacher, and also, an anti-skill lieutenant.
Anti-skill, a law enforcement and military organisation, mostly volunteered.
A surprising combo of works, for sure.

She isn't the only one residing in her apartment, though. There are four, sometimes, five residents in her humble house.

Yoshikawa Kikyou, a close friend of hers. During their school days, they found out that their names were pronounced very similarly. That's the beginning of their friendship, and they've been friends ever since.
Yoshikawa works as a researcher. Due to the nature of her work, she often has to stay in her lab, sometimes for days. After a certain incident, she likes to stay at the Yomikawa residence when she is done with her work. Besides, it saves money. That's why she is the 'sometimes fifth' resident. An interesting person, she is.
