Chapter 7
Valentino POV
"Will I become your sex slave, maid, or..." The ringing on my phone went off, and I didn't have to look to know it was Reaper. I promptly responded.
"Have you received the money?" He talked, seeming worried. I looked across at the anxious girl. She had no idea where she stood, and even if I informed her where she stood in terms of life, she was unlikely to trust me. I focused my attention back on the dark road. Each road sign steered traffic closer to the boundary.
"I did."
He exhaled through the phone. "Thank God."
"And I got the other stuff."
"God damnit, you said you would leave her alone."
"I can't." Earlier, Reaper and I had a talk about Lucia. Her bruises and scars reveal a lot, and I couldn't allow her to suffer. I know I shouldn't care about her, with how my job works, but I have to. I felt the desire to be there for her.
"How much?"
"It might be close to a half million." I muttered as quietly as I could. When I looked back over at the girl, she was sleeping. With both hands off the steering wheel, I hastily cover her torso with a jacket.
"Did you finish all the counting?" I asked. The automobile hits a speed bump, indicating that I was considerably closer to the border.
She gasped and threw the jacket off her body. Her eyes fluttered as if taking in her surroundings as she glanced at me."It's only a speed bump. We are getting closer to the border."
"The count is short, merely 10,000." Reaper, got back to me on the phone.
"What?!" I almost yelled, which caused the girl to curl farther against the door. I reached over and patted her thigh. "It's okay; I won't hurt you."
"How does it shorten ten?" I deferred my query to Reaper.
"Nicky shorted us last week. She remarked, Business is sluggish."
"That's because you fucked her, and she's mingling with pleasure."
"Relax. Calm down. When you arrive with that, I will deduct it from my cut."
I scoffed; every month, someone shortchanged us or said that business was slow. "We need to get back into the habit of murdering people."I returned my gaze to the girl, who had slumped slightly forward and appeared to be falling asleep again.
I looked up ahead and noticed the several roads flowing into and out of Mexico. "Meet me up later. I'm at the border."
I tapped the girl awake.
She gazed up at me for about a second before her gaze shifted to the windshield. Her eyes widened, and she began to breathe heavily.
"I want you to be calm. Just laid back and relaxed." I gently directed, rolling the sleeves of my sweatshirt to reveal the tattoo. I pulled over into the open lane. This alley was where prominent authorities passed through.Who knows how important the Cartels are. The Trapz keep everyone on their toes, including the immigration officer at the borders.
Instead of thrusting a passport, I extended my wrist. The man in cap, hiding his eyes, his head ducked, just out the window to look through the car.
"Who is that?"
I scowled at the man. He gulped and then nodded. He motioned with his hand for me to drive through.
"Just like that." She gasped. Her eyes wet when she peered out the window. Currently on American soil.
"Not really." I muttered. "You cannot be spotted strolling about. If the immigration group discovers you wandering around without an official paperwork proving you are an American citizen, you will be arrested and deported."Her brow wrinkled, not comprehending what I had just spoken. "You may sleep; it is a long ride home."

Lucia's POV
"Just like that." I gave a gasp. My eyes wet as I gazed out the window. Currently on American soil. This was it right? Am I finally here? My dream was finally coming true, right?
"Not really." She muttered.
I wrinkled my face, unable to comprehend what she had just said. "You may sleep; it is a long ride home."
How could I sleep when she had just told me that one incorrect move would send me back to my nightmares? I couldn't go back, even if I could see Mexico's sandy fate with a quick glance back. There was an enormous change. The roads here are smoother and brighter with lighting.
"I can't go back."
"You will not."
"But, you mentioned..."
"With the right support, you won't. Think of this as your new home?"
I gave a small shake of my head. Nowhere was home.Despite passing the barriers, knowing what was behind them, and not dreaming about it, I didn't feel like I belonged here.
"Home?"
"Yes."
"I'll be staying with you."
"Where else will you stay?" She grumbled.
The idea of whether I would be her sex slave crossed my mind.
"Go to sleep, Lucia."
