Sesshomaru's POV
What is this pain in my chest? How can it hurt more than any battle I've ever faced. I know I have cuts from my fight with Naraku but there is no wound on my chest.
Also this burning rage within. It feels unbearable. Like I could explode from within and a lump seems to have formed in my throat. It's hard to breathe. What is this disgusting feeling. I hate it....Tears. They fall from my eyes like that human. She always had tears in her eyes. She must have been contagious.
"Lord...Sesshomaru?" Kagura, Naraku's slave appeared before me. "Are you crying?" Crying? I would never do such a thing. This was an illness that human girl passed to me. "Let me heal your wounds Lord Sesshomaru. I promise that once I'm done you'll forget about that stupid human."
Kagura's POV
Finally, even if this will get me killed in the end I'll do whatever it takes to be with you Lord Sesshomaru. Just for tonight please accept me as a woman who can be by your side. "What are you implying?" He says but how can he not know. How many times have I came and told him about Naraku's schemes. How many times was I punished for just trying to please you. It didn't matter what I did Sesshomaru never gave me a second glance.
But that woman showed up and he started to become more human-like. Every time I saw him he had that stupid look in his eyes like that half demon. Like he wasn't just fighting for power anymore. He was fighting for something else...
I can't hate that Mayumi girl too much though. It's because of her that Lord Sesshomaru is vulnerable enough to let me get this close. It made me wonder what Shuya said or did to make him look so defeated. I'll have to punish that stupid fox later for hurting him. "Lord Sesshomaru, I don't care if you love that woman. I'll let you use me to your hearts content. Even if it's just this one time, share your bed with me. I swear I'll make it worth it." I inched closer to him slowly, praying I could steal a kiss.
Sesshomaru's POV
A small orb of light approached me, whispering in my ear. "Have you forgotten the letter in your hand? Read it. Aren't you curious as to what it says?" I pushed Kagura away and opened the letter Shuya gave me which had been crumpled in my hand. I tried to read it but the characters were different from what I'm used to. If I hurry I can catch up to Inuyasha's group. Maybe his human was able to read this.
I ran to them ignoring Kagura and her advances. Why would she think that in my weakest state I would ever accept a conniving woman who wished to prey on me. Even if I have been betrayed...I have eyes for only one woman, Mayumi.
Kagome POV
"Ugh Inuyasha did you eat all the noodles again!? You're just going to get a stomach ache!" Inuyasha's began to cough heavily and point to something behind me. Even Shippo choked up. To my surprise it was— "Sesshomaru!?"
We all were in awe at the sight of Sesshomaru standing there with tear stained eyes. "Who can read this language?" He held up a letter but Miroku snatched it out of his hands a little too quickly. Had he noticed something that I didn't? "I can! Kagome has taught me how to read the writing from her time. Did Mayumi send you on a grocery list or some—" Miroku's face grew serious and it freaked me out. "What does the letter say Miroku?" Before Miroku couldn't utter a single word Sesshomaru dragged him away. What the heck is going on?
Miroku POV
"Before I read this to you. Is Mayumi in any danger?" He shook his head no but the letter says otherwise. "Alright...here I go. Are you ready?" Sesshomaru nodded. His behavior was strange to say the least. This was not like him at all. I cleared my throat shrugging off my uncertainty and read the letter carefully.
'My Dearest Sesshomaru,
If you have received this letter then I'm no longer here. I'm sure that doesn't come to a shock because of how weak I am. This whole time we've been traveling together I've been nothing but a burden to you. Even so, I'm so grateful. Your kindness towards me and willingness to have me by your side is what made me fall for you—'
I wasn't done reading when Sesshomaru distracted me once again. He was knelt to the ground scribbling in the dirt with his nail looking bashful. He blushed from his cheeks all the way up to his ears with the blank expression he always had. But his eyes gave him away...was he shy!?
In my disbelief Sesshomaru grabbed his sword and placed it at my neck. "Continue." So I did willingly, while gaining some more info on their relationship.
'—Words cannot express my gratitude. It pains me to be apart from you and yet I fear that you don't feel the same. I know that there must be a reason for you keeping me by your side. Even if it's so that you can get rid of Naraku so you can take the jewel within me I would gladly die by your hand. For my heart has no other desire then to be by your side till the end. My only regret is that I wasn't able to tell you how much you truly mean to me in person.
It's funny isn't it? Here I am facing certain death and all I can think about is you. I can picture that beautiful moment we shared clearly. Under the rays of the sun in the field of wild flowers as your white hair swayed with the breeze. It was the first time as I followed you that you looked back at me. It might have been nothing at the time but now I can see that it was the first time that you saw me as something more than just a human.
I apologize for this long letter, I never knew I had so much to say to you. I guess I took the time we shared for granted. In the next life I hope I could lays eyes on you once more.
With all my love, Mayumi.'
I handed the letter back to him but he looked troubled. "Is there a question you have for me Sesshomaru?" He avoided eye contact with me as he spoke. "Can a woman who writes a letter like this betray you? Or deceive you in any way?" I was unsure of what he meant but answered honestly. "If a woman loves you enough to think about you and only you before her death and even take time out to write you a letter for you to find.—Pouring her heart out to you I doubt that she would betray you."
He stood there for a moment pondering my words and finally turned to leave. "W-wait! Is Mayumi safe? This letter is concerning, if Something has happened to her I will have to tell Kagome. They're family after all." He stopped, so I froze in place. "Tell no one about this. Mayumi is safe. It is I who is in danger."
This however left me more puzzled. "What do you mean you're the one in danger?" Sesshomaru pointed up to the sky. I looked up to see a bright light beam from somewhere in the woods. "What is that!?" He calmly replied. "It is Mayumi, she has awakened." I panicked. "I'll get Inuyasha and the others—" He pointed his sword at me again. "No. There is no longer any danger. If you tell anyone what happened I'll kill you myself." I backed away and bowed. "T-there will be no need! My lips are sealed!"
I scurried away back to everyone and sat down with my best poker face. "So Miroku, what happened with Inuyasha's older brother? You were gone with him for a while." I panicked when Shippo asked me this. I hadn't properly created an excuse in my mind yet. "Oh it was just a shopping list is all." Sango peered into my face. "Are you sure it was a shopping list Miroku? It took awfully long for just a list of items."
I began to sweat as I laughed it off. "Miroku." Kagome questioned me next and I couldn't contain my fear of her. Her eyes bore into my soul. "You wouldn't hide anything from us would you?" I shook my head. "N-no of course not! It just took me a bit longer because I gave him directions to where he can find some of the items he needed." All eyes were on me including Inuyasha. He wasn't convinced but stayed quiet.
I took a sigh of relief when everyone turned their attention back to eating. I felt guilty for lying but if I said anything they would all just spring into action and get involved. Mayumi and Sesshomaru are old enough to not need anyone to get involved in their love life. I didn't want to cause any unnecessary problems for them especially with Kagome being here.
Ever since Mayumi came to our time it seems like their relationship has gone sour. I understand Kagome's concern for her but I think she went too far which only pushed Mayumi away. I hope they can mend things soon. If we all joined together we could definitely stand a chance against Naraku. But then again what did Sesshomaru mean when he said Mayumi awakened? And that light, what could it have been?
