IN KALIYUG :

The sky was crying, but for them, it felt like a blessing.

Somewhere in the quiet suburbs of Hyderabad, beneath a moody grey sky, Harsha and Seeta—his Jaanu—were twirling around like children, soaked to the bone, yet glowing. The rain clung to their skin, their laughter echoing into the stillness, dancing with the rhythm of their hearts.

"Baby, please," Harsha said, trying not to smile as he caught her hand mid-twirl, "Let's get inside. You're drenched already. You'll catch a cold."

His voice was gentle, almost scolding, but then he leaned in and pressed a kiss on her forehead.

"Five more minutes," Jaanu pleaded, her eyes pulling off the classic puppy look she knew he couldn't resist.

Harsha groaned dramatically. "Fine. But one condition," he whispered, lips brushing against her ear. "Only if you let me love you today..."

She gasped. "Yah! You can't make me blush, that's my thing!" she shot back, pushing his hands away from her waist.

But the guy? He didn't give up. His hands sneaked right back to where they belonged, and she just sighed in defeat. That man could win any war with that stupid boyish grin.

"You don't wanna become a mumma this early, Jaanu," he teased, turning her to face him.

But instead of her usual playful eye-roll, she smiled—mischievous, knowing.

"Ohh! How cute," she smirked. "Let's see then. If you can catch me..." she winked and took off, running barefoot on the wet ground. "Maybe I'll let you impregnate me!"

"Jaanu!!" he shouted, laughing as he ran after her.

The sun crept up lazily the next morning, but Harsha was already wide awake, brushing wet strands of hair from Jaanu's forehead.

"Baby... it's noon. You forgot your parents are coming today. And mom's been calling you," he murmured, gently shaking her.

"Go away, Harsha," she mumbled, her voice husky and half-asleep. "You didn't let me sleep last night... five more minutes."

Harsha laughed under his breath, watching her pout, her hair a tangled mess of bangs across her face. His heart swelled. Every tiny thing about her made him feel like the luckiest man alive. He wanted to freeze this moment. Frame it. Worship it.

But life doesn't pause just because we're in love.

*****

A few months passed, and their lives slowly shifted into a new kind of joy.

"Baby, eat something first," Harsha said, holding her gently as she tried to come down the stairs, one hand on her slightly rounded belly. She was glowing in the most literal sense.

"I ate," she said, lying terribly, and resting her head on his shoulder. "Do you really have to go now?"

Her eyes searched his, soft and pleading.

Harsha was still. His grip around her tightened just a little. He didn't want to go either.

But war doesn't wait for love.

"You know I have to," he said, crouching down, pressing a kiss to her belly. "I'll be back before you even miss me."

"Too late," she whispered. "I already miss you."

He stood, and before he could say another word, she cupped his face and kissed him—deep, desperate, like she was trying to lock a piece of him inside her heart.

"I love you," he said against her lips. "So much."

And then he left.

She stood at the doorstep, arms wrapped around herself, watching his jeep disappear. Something inside her felt heavy. Off. But she swallowed it. He'd come back. He promised.

*****

The battlefield was chaos. Smoke, screams, blood. Harsha's voice crackled through the walkie-talkie.

"Sir, permission to go in and get the trapped soldiers. I repeat—they're still alive. I can bring them back."

"Commander Harsha..." the officer sighed. "You really think this'll work?"

There was a pause.

"Yes, sir."

"Fine. But bring them back. No unnecessary risks."

Harsha didn't wait. "Jai Hind."

He ran.

Bullets rained down, but his eyes only saw his men—his brothers. And then—

Pain.

A sharp, burning pain tore through his abdomen. He staggered, but didn't stop. Blood soaked his uniform. He carried the injured, one by one, through mud and gunfire.

"Sir! Please! It's too dangerous!" someone yelled behind him.

But he didn't stop.

Then—another explosion. This time louder. A missile. Too close. Too fast. Too much.

He tried to run, but his body betrayed him. The injury slowed him down. The heat engulfed him. The blast knocked the breath out of him. He fell.

His mind blurred. The battlefield faded. He could feel his life slipping away like sand through his fingers.

"Jaanu..." he whispered.

His hand trembled as he reached for nothing. Her face. Her laugh. Their baby.

"God... please... I want to live..."

The sky above blurred, the sounds turned to echoes. And as the world dimmed, his lips moved with one last prayer.

"Om Namo Narayanaya..."

And then—

Silence.
