Chapter 18

Felicia Hardy abruptly sat up in her bed, sweat beading down her forehead as she clutched her heart. The shrill sound of her alarm was ringing in her ears, startling her almost to death.

"Fuck off" She mumbled under her breath as she practically punched the 'snooze' button as she rolled back over, covering herself with her duvet. Her eyes slowly shut as she nodded back off to sleep, suddenly she was reawoken by a loud knocking on her bedroom door, followed by the same door being swung open and her mother swanning in.

"Good morning darlin" Her mother exclaimed happily in her shrill voice, as she strutted over to Licia's bed, then rudely sitting on her legs, "Now- I was thinking after school we could go to the small, I saw this wonder full dress I thought-"

"Ma" Licia held her hand up, stopping her mother, "I can't go I'm sorry" She groggily said, barely able to see 10cm ahead of her.

Her mother furrowed her eyebrows, "Why not?"

"I'm goin to a party, Liz invited me" Licia watched her mothers expression turn from worry to a state of utter delight. A smile crept on her face as she clapped her hands together and stood up, grinning constantly at her daughter as she left the room, not saying another word.

Licia rubbed her head, not sure about what just happened, "Okayyyy"

First person POV - Licia

"Licia!" Liz squealed as she saw she walk into school, she ran over to me with a smile on her face, followed by Betty and Ella, two girls in Liz's friend group.

"I love your hair today, a slick back bun really suits you!" Ella said to me.

"Thanks" I blushed awkwardly, smiling back.

Liz suddenly grabbed my arm, "C'mon, let's go to home room" As we walked through the door I noticed that almost everyone was sat in a huddle in the centre of the room. I looked at Liz, confused however she didn't bother looking at me but kept walking to just join in with the huddle, lightly pushing a few people out of the way so she could get closer to the centre. It seemed that everyone there was gathered around except one person, a boy called Ned who was sat alone.

Judging by the fact literally the entire class was involved except him, I had a feeling he was excluded on purpose. I knew I had done some bad things, but I wasn't a monster - I sat down next to him and pulled out my phone, keeping him company.

Ned shifted, noticing someone had just sat next to him. He looked in my direction realising it was me, then back at the huddle then me again. He twiddled his thumbs, thinking deeply before opening his mouth and saying; "Hi- I'm Ned"

My head snapped up to look at him: "I know" I smiled in return, "We're in technology together; I'm-"

"Licia!" Someone suddenly shouted. Ned and I both spun around, facing whoever had said my name. Jace had his arm slung over Liz's chair was he spoke.

"You coming tonight?" He asked, quickly glancing at Ned in the process, a smirk slowly crept onto Jace's face, "He can come too if he wants" Motioning to Ned, who slowly turned around embarrassed. A few people behind Jace murmured and laughed quietly and cruelly. I watched as Liz faltered a smile, quickly fading as I looked her dead in the eye.

I smiled, looking at Ned then back at Jace, "Sure!" I replied, "We'll be there" And with that the bell suddenly rung, everyone stood up except Jace who blankly stared at me, astonished before Liz tugged at his arm, getting his attention. I turned back around to grab my bag and I was met by Ned who had just been looking at me, quickly look away. Another smile crept upon my face as I stood up, throwing my bag over my shoulder.
