"You're annoyed."

I looked up briefly before glancing back down at what I was reviewing.

"Yes...I am."

"Why?" pestered Fern, swinging in the chair opposite mine, as he waited for Gabriel's office door to open. I looked up at the shut door and back at Fern, who decided that whilst I was busy doing a payment roll, to sit at my desk out of all the waiting chairs and annoy me with never ending questions.

It was like having a ten year old you had to babysit.

Why was I tapping the keys on the keyboard so hard?

Why was I slurping the bottom of my coffee through the straw?

Did I need a new straw as my paper straw was pretty soaked through?

Why was I breathing so heavy?

"Fern, don't you have anything better to do?" I asked, sometimes I liked his company and sometimes I preferred him in his office on the other side of the floor.

"Well," Fern stopped swinging in the chair, "I was meant to review the minutes you took yesterday but you haven't sent them to me yet."

I groaned stretching my fingers that were starting to cramp, "I know, I'm working on it, it's on my to do list that keeps growing thanks to Gabriel." I massaged my index finger that was getting a solid work out from typing and clicking endlessly.

Thanks to our little 'holiday break' I had more work than ever piling up, and my phone wouldn't stop ringing with rescheduling the meetings Gabriel had cancelled to go to Greece. I had to do all this before I went on leave or else the tyrant would cancel it.

"Why don't you get Josie to help?" Fern suggested.

"I'd rather do an all nighter than get your assistant to help me," I muttered.

"True, she is pretty bad."

"And you should fire her."

"I can't my mum would kill me," Fern groaned.

"Ugh, go annoy her," I muttered as I flicked between the desktop screens, "I seriously don't know why you would hire your sister to be your assistant."

"I know, that why I'm hiring someone else to actually do work. Josie spends half her time flirting with Ethan. If she's not at her desk, she's at his desk and then he gets late in sending me reports."

I muttered under my breath as Fern went on about how his younger sister works, like I didn't know. The whole office knew what Josie was like and yet he still kept her around. As nice as Josie was, her work was terrible and sometimes Fern would come running to me for help, which I obviously couldn't turn down.

"Are you listening to me?"

"No," I admitted, somewhere between the mints Josie eats and the lunch breaks I had tuned out. I pressed print on the computer to get the pay summary ready for Gabriel, or else I'll have him breathing down my neck as well.

"Okay, you definitely are annoyed. What happened, what did Kyle do?"

My finger paused my click as I looked up, "What?"

"It's most likely a boy issue, you have that face."

"What face?" I asked.

"Your eyebrows are all scrunched up, you're like going to get wrinkles."

He was right, my face was scrunched up, not a lot, but enough to realise I was holding tension somewhere. I relaxed my face and it was almost like my shoulders had semi relaxed because of that. I stretched my eyebrows to my forehead and then released it, so it would just be...normal now.

"So it is him," Fern said in a "I gotcha" type of voice, for some reason he looked proud of himself.

"Whatever, I have work to do."

"No!! Tell me," Fern leaned over, "I love goss."

"It's nothing, he just can't get leave."

Fern gasped, leaning back, "He's not coming to your sister's wedding!"

"Shhh," I scolded him, what if Gabriel hears and comes out to yell at us for not working as hard as he does.

"It's not a big deal," I whispered, well it was a lie and one look at my face, Fern also knew it was a lie. He casted a look at Gabriel's closed door and then leaned over, placing his forearms on the table as he crouched over the desktop.

"Well, what are you going to do?"

I shrugged, "There's not much I can do," I leaned forward, "He said he might come the day before so maybe he will, maybe he won't. He told me to take someone else or don't. He doesn't really care."

Fern whistled softly, and I almost felt the breath on my face with how close he was leaning over. I could almost see the freckles up close.

"Then do it."

"Do what?"

"Take someone else."

"Can't, all my girlfriends are busy plus no one wants to waste leave for someone else wedding to be honest," All I did this morning on the way to work was text my three close girlfriends, all in long term relationships or with kids, which meant that they had barely any time for me, let alone time to accompany me to a wedding.

"Why don't you do what Gabriel did?"

"Which is?" I asked.

"Take someone with you as a fake Kyle."

"No way!" I gasped, "Imagine if my mother found out, she would die and get me dead."

"But how will she know? Kyle might not come."

"Or he might on the last day like he said he would," Which I didn't have much hope for him anyway.

"Just...think about it, you've already paid you said, so why waste it?"

The door creaked open and we both jumped back into our seats.

Gabriel stepped out, his mouth open to say something and the he closed it as he looked between us.

"Am I disturbing something?"

"No,"I said hastily.

"Yes," Fern said clearing his throat as he stood up and then looked at me. I widened my eyes at him, I thought this was a secret.

"Well, get in my office you can do whatever you were doing later."

Fern tapped on my desk as he rushed past into Gabriel's office as I sat back sighing. Fern did have a point, I spent a lot of money on this trip. I even got Fern a damn suit to match my hideous outfit. I wonder if I could return it since I didn't alter it yet.

But surely I couldn't take someone with me...could I?
