The sun was setting on the west, which would be a beautiful site for most, but it was a reminder to the riders of what was about to come. They needed to save Viggo and the lost villager, the only thing keeping the riders back.
"Are you sure about this?" Astrid asked, approaching him outside the hall, "I...hope?" The young leader answered. "I just wanted to make sure you were ok, you know, with all this."
"I'm fine, thanks." He kissed her forehead and squeezed her hand in assurance, "alright, lets go." She replied, and they walked hand in hand.
"So, what exactly is the plan here?" Heather asked as they mounted their dragons. "I was hoping we could fly around the island and find a way in." Hiccup answered. "Never knew this day will come. Hiccup only running on hope." Heather whispered. "Right, lets ride." He commanded, his voice flat.
And once again, the riders rode in silence, the tension in the air sickening, the sky darkening. This mission could go two ways, ways I don't have to explain. Just as long as she has them, they didn't hold any cards. When they could get them back, the real battle will start. The battle with the riders and a worthy opponent, who they didn't even know her name.
"So," Astrid started, breaking the silence, "when we do get Viggo, riter and the villager out of there, what's next?" She questioned. "They won't hold any cards against us, giving us an advantage. I hope at least." Valka replied, glancing at her son. As if he felt her eyes on him, he glanced back, "Yeah." He answered dryly, focusing back on the road.
As the island grew closer, the sky was now dark, the only light coming from the torches from said island. "Alright, if we could only find the prison holds, is where there most likely holding them. I say we split up, it also could increase our chances of being caught. Stay out of sight." He commanded and they followed.
Hiccup mostly relied on the sight of his dragon as his own wasn't so terrific in darkness. He circled around to what felt like ages before he, well toothless, spotted something, or smelled something, whatever it was it had to be Viggo. "Lets go bud." He whispered, as they slowly flew in. To be honest, with all the guards in every corner, he was quit surprised no one was seen yet. With all their dragons flying around freely around the island, they probably blended in.
He landed softly and the rider hoped off, and in front of him was a cave with the walls aligned with prison cells. "I guess this it bud." Hiccup whispered, and slowly but surely started walking towards the cave, checking for traps. Toothless stayed behind in case any guard came, which also made him wonder why nobody was outside the cells. But never mind that, he needed to get to them. Something is wrong, why was nobody guarding this cells? Maybe they didn't keep anyone? Hiccup asked himself, but he had to check either way.
Maybe he was wrong, as he walked passed another corner, there were two guards guarding two cells. He immediately hid himself away from their sights, his back against the rough wall. From where he stood, he couldn't see who was inside but he had to take a wild guess it was the two victims he was looking for.
He picked up a rather large stone from the ground hurling it at one of the guards head, and as the other turned around to acknowledge what is going on, Hiccup had already ran, hitting hin in the jaw hard, knocking him out.
He heard a slight chuckle, "You're getting better Haddock." His voice was Husky. "Viggo," Hiccup breathed, "I'm glad you remember me, it's been a while." He teased but happy he was here. "Right, sorry about that." He mumbled, breaking the lock with his sword, and the chains that held the older man down. Viggo stood up, but immediately almost falling back down as his legs were weak.
"You okay," Hiccup asked, genuinely worried. "I'll be fine, but we need to go, before she gets here."
"Uhh, right." He replied looking at the other cell, where the kidnapped villager was. He looked dead asleep, but awoke from the sound of the lock of the cell being broken. "Sire..." he breathed, "you came..." They smiled. "Of coarse I did," the young rider smiled back, breaking his chains.
"Viggo, where is Riter?" Hiccup asked remembering the young skrill. "I'm not-" As if the dragon heard its name, it roared loudly enough for the three men to hear from the end of the tunnel. "Alright toothless is outside, the riders are out there somewhere, go." He ordered, running off. "Wait Hiccup!" Viggo called but the boy was long gone, he sighed, "stubborn as always," he whispered to no one, "come on, Emperors order," He said turning his attention to the villager.
They reached the entrance of the tunnel, there was toothless like Hiccup had said, but other familiar riders who had seemed to notice the black dragon had landed without its rider nearby. "Viggo?!" Valka whisper shouted getting the others attention. All were glad, but, "where's-" Valka was interrupted by Viggo, "He went back for Riter, alone....and yes I strongly suggest you go after him, I fear Riter might not be the only thing at the end of the tunnel."
Without questioning, they all ran after Hiccup, and indeed Riter wasn't the only creature here. Deathgrippers were guarding the large cage. Hiccup was hidden behind a corner when the riders snuck behind him. "Hiccup," Astrid whispered behind him making him jump, if they weren't trying to be quiet they would have burst out laughing, but they held it in. He calmed down once he saw the familiar faces, "don't do that," he said with a gruff voice. "Sorry," she was able to spit out without laughing, "anyway, how do you expect us to get pass those deathgrippers?"
"We can't, but the dragon can," he turned to Cam and Thora, as quiet as they are, there archery skills were unmatched. Camilla took out her bow and arrow understanding what Hiccup meant, she aimed for the lock letting go, and it was off. The dragon rushed past and the riders ran off.
They reached the entrance and all dragons stood waiting for their riders to mount, Viggo and Riter had their little reunion before following the rest to the sky, with the villager sat behind him.
A few minutes of silence, Astrid spoke up, "Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?" She asked, "that it was too easy? Yeah maybe." Hiccup replied and the others silently agreed.
