"I'm home!" I yell as I enter through the front door, immediately changing into my indoor slippers. A few lamps are on rather than the harsh main lights, making for a warm and cozy atmosphere, one that I'd been longing for all day at school. I sigh, my shoulders slumping as I finally relax.

I hear footsteps coming down the stairs, but Toru's out with some guy from our class, and dad's away for the night with work, so it can't be either of them.

I close the door behind me, and turn around to see Akio thudding down the stairs to greet me. My eyes light up at the sight of my big brother, who I haven't seen in a few days.

He's wearing a black band t shirt and baggy grey sweatpants, his black curls a mess and the bags under his green eyes evident.

"Hey idiot." He grins, "miss me?"

"KIKIII!!!" I exclaim his least favorite nickname, rushing forwards to knock into him, capturing his arms with mine in a bear hug.

He's grimacing as I pull back with a look of pure joy. I giggle at his face, knowing I've pissed him off because he hates hugs.

"Are you making dinner tonight?" I ask, happily pacing to the sofa and flopping down on it, chucking my school bag next to me.

"Of course food is the first thing you'd ask about fatty."

"Jump."

"Fuck you."

I switch the TV on, and flick through the channels to find something to watch, "soo wanna watch a movie?"

"Way ahead of you, I got popcorn and ramen in, but we're not watching some boring romcom, ok?"

"Horror movie?" I ask, my eyes wide as I twist to stare at Akio expectantly.

"Absolutely," he grins, "But not a boring one, we're gonna watch one that'll make you shit your pants."

"Eww." I complain.

"What, stinky?"

"If anyone's gonna shit themselves it'll be you."

"Huh? Why's that?"

"Because, in school today right-"

"Oh my GOD I thought it was gonna be something actually important. You had me scared there a little."

I frown, "this is important, I'm keeping you updated on my life."

"Didn't ask." He deadpans, so I fall silent, navigating through the horror section of Netflix.

After about ten seconds I hear a: "Hey, why did you stop telling me about school?"

This immediately perks me back up, and I start telling Akio all about my day and our intense training, and how I came ninth out of 22 people.

"Damn, I really am a good teacher." He chuckles.

Akio was the first one I'd told about my intentions to go to UA.

"Hey."

"What is it?" My brother asked flatly.

"Sorry, I know you're busy with planning what school you're going to next year-"

"Yeah, yeah, don't need to monologue me, what do you want?" He cut across me impatiently.

I rolled my eyes at that typical behavior, but took another nervous step into his room.

"I want to go to UA high next year, and I want you to help me train please."

His eyes widened in surprise, but he immediately smiled, "yeah, sure."

Then, for the next year, he'd taken me to the gym every weekend, during weeknights sneaking out to the local park to practice with my quirk.

He'd helped build up my strength and reflexes, and I definitely wouldn't be where I am today without him. It goes without saying, I owe my older brother a lot.

It was only once Toru told me she was going to apply to UA that I told her and dad I was going to as well. My sister was, of course, over the moon, but my dad was against it for us both, though he never explicitly said anything.

Once I find a movie with a rating of 18, acceptable amount of gore, and enough good ratings, I head upstairs to change into my pajamas.

I have a quick shower, the second of today, but I feel as though I need to wash the school air off me. After that tiring morning, we had lunch and then an excruciatingly boring English lesson, which is my least favorite, and a maths lesson.

I sigh as I step out of the bathroom in a towel, my room fuzzy until I slide on my black glasses. I slip into my off the shoulder graphic t shirt (which I cut myself) and pajama shorts quickly, chucking my towel on the floor to deal with later.

I pull on my fluffy socks as I walk out my room, hopping on each foot, and almost tumbling down the stairs, but catching myself just in time.

By the time I'm back in the living room, Akio's laid out our bowls of ramen and various snacks. My mouth begins to water, and I bound over, plopping down on the sofa, and wrapping myself in a blanket.

To set the ambience, I also notice that most of the lights have been turned off, save for the two either side of the sofa.

Usually, the darkness would get my pulse racing, my imagination going wild with images of what could be waiting for me in the blackness, but since Akio's here, I feel an odd serenity.

"What time's Toru getting back?" He asks, adjusting the cushions behind his back.

"I dunno, she knows dad's out, so could be anytime really."

"I'll text her, she can't stay out too late."

"Ok buddy." I roll my eyes.

"Chill I'm just being responsible."

"Who are you, and what did you do with my brother?"

He grumbles under his breath, pulling out his phone. This reminds me to set mine on silent, but as I'm turning it off, I notice I've been sent some messages. One catches my eye in particular, as I notice the pink-skinned girl from school, Ashido, has messaged me.

Mina Ashido:
Hey girl!! Got ur numbr off ur
sis 🤩🤞

Me:
Hey Ashido xo

Mina Ashido:
I was just wondering whether
you'd like 2 train this weekend
w me and sum others

and then we could go to a cafe
or smth? xx

Me:
YHAT SOUNDS SO FUN TEXT
ME TKMKNGS !!

I set my phone down, grinning at this new friendship, and pick up my bowl of ramen, the delicious smell wafting towards me.

"Ready?" Akio asks, pointing the remote at the TV.

"Mhm!!" I hum enthusiastically, eyes wide as I take a massive mouthful of the noodles into my mouth.

"Alrighty." He says in a funny accent, pressing play, then lounging back with his own bowl of food.

My insides tense as the opening music plays, sinister piano music to the visuals of cracked mirrors and smashed glasses.
