fighting, slight gore

My arms glow brighter against the bleak haze of smog, blue veins popping against my translucent, lit-up skin. I summon some of the light from nearby fires to circle around my arms, starting to gather my bearings and find a way to the exit.

I have to get back to my classmates. We have to get out of here, get away from the villains, before someone gets hurt. I wonder whether everyone else was split up too.

I start down the street, roaring flames the only sound in the deserted fire zone, until I hear the stomach-dropping sound of unfamiliar voices.

Footsteps pound against the pavement as three villains come out of a side alley, blocking my way.

One has no face, just smooth pinkish skin stretched over their skull, another has eight steely legs, blades clunking into the concrete as he moves, and the last has vividly red hair which glints as she keeps pace just behind the others, and eyes black as tar.

I can feel my pulse hammering in the side of my neck. They see me. I have no choice, I won't be able to run if I don't know their quirks, they could easily sneak attack me from behind. I have to fight.

I walk forward towards the villains, legs moving stiffly, robotically as if I'm in a trance. My minds spinning and I can't get it to stop. How is this real? Is this actually happening?

The stench of iron and metal wafts towards me as I get closer, making my steps falter. I hesitate for a moment, before moving my gaze to a small inferno behind the three, gathering light and summoning it to me, sweeping the metal-spider villain right off his feet.

The redhead lets out an enraged cry, and I use the surprise to my advantage, shooting light from my hand to propel my body forward, ignoring the sharp sting on my palm.

I can't hold back now, I have to use all aspects of my quirk, to be versatile in a real fight.

I grit my teeth, gathering more light and condensing it hastily, whacking the creepy one with no face. I hear a sickening crack as they fall to the floor, staying down. I don't pause, still flying towards them, reshaping the light into lots of tiny sparkles and raining them down on the three as I reach them.

This creates enough of a distraction for me to hit the redhead hard, tumbling to the ground and knocking the wind from her. I roll off immediately, dancing away from her body as I can't afford to get hit by whatever her quirk may be.

As she lies there gasping, I scramble to my feet, then reshape the light once again to try knock her out. What I hadn't accounted for was the metal-spider to have recovered so quickly, so I don't have enough warming to dodge the sharp leg it kicks me with.

Pain laces through my back, and it feels as though my muscles have been set aflame. I let out a twisted cry of pain, stumbling away as I feel hot blood gush down from the wound. My mind hazes over.

Groaning brokenly, I light my arms up to the maximum, glowing brighter than ever before with my newfound panic, my costume's goggles allowing me to watch as the two conscious villains hiss at the intensity of brightness.

Leaving them reeling, I take a gamble and boost myself into the air, light unraveling from my arms behind me as I land on a nearby rooftop. I immediately extinguish my quirk, crouching behind a charred crate.

I cover my mouth to stifle the whimpers of pain my throat constricts around. I feel my severed veins pulsing out blood as they're exposed to the air, and desperately blink the tears from my wide eyes.

The thought of fighting real villains had spurred me on times before, but now, coming into contact with the real thing, panic clouds my mind and limits my judgement. I screwed up, taking all three on at once and underestimating them. Fucking useless shit.

A tear squeezes from the corner of my eye as I get back to my feet, pacing tentatively closer to the edge of the roof I'm on.

The black-eyed female villain has got back to her feet, reconciling with the metal spider as they stay on guard, looking around for me. The faceless one stays laid on the floor, and my heart stops for a moment as I realize I may have inadvertently killed him. A hard landing on a sharp rock would've done the job.

My throat constricts as I scrutinize their hazy form through the wispy smoke in the air, but I let out a breath when I see his chest rise and fall ever so slightly.

I have to deal with the other two villains. I have to help my classmates in any way I can. Gathering strength, I wipe a smudge of soot from my cheek, ignoring the smarting of my back as I leap down from the building.

Taking the villains by surprise, I stay further away than last time, keeping out of range of those sharp, bladed legs. As I descend silently, I muffle my fall with a soft layer of light under me, ensuring that I don't break both legs on impact. Both villains have their backs turned to me.

I clear my mind and concentrate on what I see in front of me, bringing light particles from all the little fires around into a dense, writhing mass. I send this barreling for the villains in front of me, who don't even have time to yell before the light cocoons around them, wrapping them in a chrysalis of blinding brightness.

I then lift this into the air, my arms shaking under the weight, before slamming it against the wall of a nearby building.

My focus drops, as does the bundle of light, dispersing back into the air as the two now-unconscious villains fall limply to the ground. I wait with bated breath, but neither makes any move, so I straighten up, wincing as pain spikes through my back.

Grabbing a loose cord hanging from a nearby building, I drag the faceless villain over to the other two, tying all three tightly together.

One satisfied with my work, I propel myself into the air by shooting streams of light from my palms again. From here, I get a clear vantage point. My eyes sting from the smoke, but I can just about see the brightness from the exit of this dome.

I fabricate a rope of light hanging midair in front of me, swinging myself towards the exit. I just hope everyone's alright.
