A017's POV
After months of intense recovery and rehabilitation, I was finally able to return home. The familiar warmth of our house, the comforting presence of Elena and Eric—everything felt like a dream I never wanted to wake from.
Life slowly returned to a new normal. Eric and Elena took great care of me, ensuring I had everything I needed. Their support and love were invaluable as I adjusted to life outside the hospital.
Once I was well enough, I reconnected with the CBI. My conversation with my superiors was intense, filled with questions about my recovery and readiness to return to the field. They appreciated my dedication but insisted I needed more time to fully recuperate before taking on another mission.
Superior: "Liezel, your health is our priority. We need you to be completely recovered before you can go back to the field."
I nodded, understanding their concern. The decision was wise, and I agreed with their assessment. I took this time to focus on my recovery and to consider my future.
During this period, I reached out to Martina. We spoke over the phone about the possibility of me continuing my work as an HR with the company. I wanted to stay connected to a purpose while I was still healing.
Liezel: "Martina, I'm feeling much better now. I was thinking, if the company is open to it, I'd like to continue working with you as an HR. I want to stay involved and contribute in any way I can."
Martina's response was immediate and filled with enthusiasm.
Martina: "That's wonderful news, Liezel! I'm thrilled you want to stay with us. Of course, you're more than welcome to continue working here. We'll be glad to have you back."
Her positive reaction brought a smile to my face. It felt good to know that I had a place in the company, a role that would keep me engaged and help me transition back into a sense of normalcy.
One evening, as Eric and I were sitting together, discussing the next steps in my recovery, I decided to share some news with him.
Liezel: "Eric, I spoke with Martina today. I'm thinking about going back to work as an HR with the company while I'm still recovering."
Eric looked up, his eyes lighting up with a mix of relief and happiness.
Eric: "Really? That's great news, Liezel! I'm so glad you're feeling up to it. I know how much you love your work, and it'll be good for you to stay engaged while you're recovering."
Liezel: "Yeah, I think it will help me feel more normal. I plan to start next Monday. It'll be a good way to ease back into things and stay connected with everything."
Eric: "Monday sounds perfect. I'm really happy you're taking this step. Just remember, don't push yourself too hard. Your health comes first."
Liezel: "I know. I'll be careful. It feels good to have a plan and be able to contribute in some way."
Eric reached out and took my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
Eric: "I'm proud of you, Liezel. You've been through so much, and I know you'll handle this next chapter just as well. I'll be here to support you every step of the way."
His words warmed my heart, and I felt a renewed sense of determination. As we continued talking about the upcoming transition, I felt a deep gratitude for Eric's unwavering support and the chance to return to a part of my life that I had missed.
