After our little heart to heart we did, Cason and I went over the details of the trial that was taking place tomorrow. Even though I was to be getting up at five o'clock in the morning, I was still going to try and be as positive as I can. Cason was going to pick me up at six and we were going to get breakfast. Then we were going to go to the court house and talk to Cason's lawyers about what to say and what not to say. The trial was going to start at nine.
We were done talking at around noon so, we decided to go outside and walk around. We were heading towards a local park and were walking hand and hand to our destination.
"I'm still nervous," Cason started.
"Shush. We are going to stop talking about the stupid trial. It's weighing you down, Cason, and I feel like if you talk about it anymore the weight will just crush you. So let's just walk and talk about something else, okay?" I reprimanded.
He looks up at me with an understanding sparkle in his eyes. "Well, what do you want to talk about?"
"Um how about," I trail off as I develop an idea in my head as I see the swing set at the park.
Toddlers were running around, seemingly playing a game of chase or tag. One of them ran in front of me while I was going to the swings so I knocked him over by accident.
He tumbled to the ground and I froze. My initial plan was to go on the swings and have Cason push me but, I can't do that now that there is a crying child laying in front of me.
This may come as a shock but, children kind of make me uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, they are cute and all but they are so fragile and I feel like if I touch them they will just break into a million tiny pieces.
"I-I," I stutter as I inch away from the child.
He looks up to me with pain and a pitiful frown.
"Your a meanie!" He shouts at me. "I don't like you."
He looked like he was about five years old and I was a tad bit scared.
I started glancing all around the park for a parent that looked somewhat similar to the child. He had a brown mop of hair and dark brown eyes. I saw no one similar so I looked back down at the child, who was wearing a thick winter coat with a picture of Spiderman on it.
Cason just caught up with me so he put his palm on the small of my back and stood close to me. He gave me a confused look as he saw the child and my awkward expression.
He was quick to kneel down at the child's level and pick him up.
"Hey buddy, what's your name?" Cason cooed to the child.
"My name is Jackson." The toddler pronounced proudly, seemingly forgetting about crying and few seconds ago.
"Alright, well Jackson, where is your Mummy?" Cason questions with a small smile on his face, all while a stood there awkwardly.
Jackson pointed to the left where a mother was walking towards us with a concerned look on his face.
Cason nodded and stood up to look at the mother with a smile placed on his face.
"Hello," The mother greeted, a little unsure.
I quickly put a smile on my face and greeted her as well. I explained what happened and the mother became less worried and started making small talk with us. She was telling us about Jackson and we stood and talked for about ten minutes. I learned her name was Sandra. She also thanked Cason for helping Jackson up.
"Sandra?" A male voice called.
"Over here, honey!" Sandra smiled.
The male, seemed like he was in his early thirties, walked over to us and smiled.
