Kevin Mikaelson

When I went out into the yard, I saw Raphael lying on the meadow and looking at the sky. Even though she didn't need sunglasses, she still had them on. I sat down next to him and handed him the blood I had just taken from the freezer, which I poured from the bag into a glass.

"Thank you," she thanked and took the glass and sat down, taking a small sip through the straw.

"Today is a beautiful day, but the forecast is that there will be a storm," I said and looked at the sky. There were no signs of a storm. It seems that the sun could shine all day and the sky could be clear.

"If they're right," my wife remarked. "After all, modern forecasters are not very good at predicting what the weather will be like."

"That's right," I said and nodded. "Listen, Raphael, you never told me about your childhood. I want to hear what it was like."

"I don't remember much," she answered immediately and shrugged her shoulders. "When I became a vampire, I forgot about human life, it was not very significant."

"Well, you still remember something. You remembered your brother," I murmured.

"My brother and I always competed to see which of us was better, to prove to our father that we were worth something more," Raphael rolled her eyes. "But father always loved his brother more, because he was born first. My mother died while giving birth to me. Her health was not very strong, as far as I know, and carrying twins was difficult for her. There were a number of possibilities where a miscarriage could have occurred or one of us could have simply died prematurely."

"How do you feel now that you know your brother is alive and still a vampire?" I asked.

"Ambiguously. I wouldn't say I'm very good about it, but it's not bad either. Basically I'm glad he's alive because at least I know what happened to him and what happened to his father. On the other hand, it doesn't satisfy me because it makes me remember the part when I was human, and I don't want to think about it," Ražhael answered, finally draining the entire glass.

"Wasn't it already so bad to be human?" I continued to comment on Raphael.

"Kevin, you will never know what it feels like to be a helpless and weak being," she replied, rolling her eyes. "You were born with a lot of physical strength. Humans are weak creatures. They are as easy to overcome as breaking a branch of a tree."

"True," I nodded, remembering all my tortures and attacks, when innocent people suffered from my outbursts of anger and aggression. "But still... I can't understand how you can not miss your human life. After all, many vampires yearn for it. Even my father."

"Well, I guess I'm an exception," Raphael shrugged. "In 1760, I was an assistant to Maria Theresa of Austria. I served her until 1768."

"What?! Are you serious?!" I started to giggle.
