"Sana! Wake up!"

"Ugh, just a few more minutes." I groan and pull the sheets higher over my head. That exact moment, I hear my door open abruptly.

"Brace yourself!" Momo shouts as she runs to my bed. I pull the covers from my face just in time to see her jump at me.

"Gosh, Momo! How much jokbal did you eat yesterday!?" I exclaim but Momo just laughs and rolls on the bed next to me.

"You need to get dressed! You have to go to Mina's."

"Ugh, can't you go to Mina's?"

"No! I need to stop by the supermarket, remember? Because you were too bored to go yesterday-"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." I roll my eyes and get up, throwing the sheets all over Momo.

"Just get ready you stubborn creature." Momo shakes her head with a smile and exits the room.

Momo is my cousin and my best friend. I've been living with her and my aunt and uncle ever since I was twelve.

Ever since my father was killed.

My father, Kosaku Minatozaki, was the owner of one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city. My opinion of course. He was also a karate instructor when he was younger, resulting to his having taught me some moves.

Now, when I was twelve, he told me to pack my things and stay at his brother's, Momo's dad, for a week because he had some business to attend to.

And one day, when we were together at the restaurant, some weird men came in and he told me to hide in the kitchen. I did as he told me, looking in through the glass that separated the kitchen from the restaurant area. I watched as some men beat him while he was tied up in a chair and I couldn't do anything.

And then the big guy showed up. He spoke to him before a gunshot was heard, planting a bullet through my dad's heart. The man then raised the gun. He shot my dad again, the chair falling to the ground.

I ran out of there from the door to the trash behind the kitchen as fast as I could. And when I looked again, the restaurant was on fire.

No special research was ever conducted for my dad. No one believed me when I said about the men that shot him and everyone ended up saying that something in the kitchen caught fire and he died that way. I thought that if I told myself that long enough, I would believe it.

I never did.

-"Are you coming?"

-"Yes, I'm on my way."

-"Well, hurry."

-"What, you're ready already?"

-"Yes."

-"Minari you can't be serious."

-"But I am, so drag your sleepy feet faster!"

I sigh when Mina drops the call. Mina is my other best friend, a quiet and elegant girl I met last year. We became friends fast since she knew Momo as well and, this year, we decided that we should transfer to Momo's school. Not a bad idea for me since I have no problem socializing. Mina prefers to keep to herself so she wasn't exactly thrilled when she heard.

I continue walking silently, making my way to Mina's house. I tuck my phone in the pocket of my jeans, taking a few seconds to make sure it doesn't fall-

"Shit!" I exclaim when my body meets someone else's. The contact has me stumbling back and I instinctively throw my hands up to grip on something. My fingers curl around the hood of the person's hoodie and the stranger immediately wraps their arms around my waist, tugging me closer until I'm steady on my feet. Black inky hair are falling out of the hood, helping me realize my savior is a girl.
