Tzuyu
The next morning, after Sana and I decide what we need for our walk to the edge of the village, we start making our way through the narrow alleys of the village. Our last encounter with contestants didn't go very well so I thought we should try and be more discreet this time.
I never wanted to kill anyone, let alone do it in front of her. Now she knows just how much of a monster I am.
Being able to kill and not feel sympathy for the person I killed isn't something I'm proud of. And when I saw Sana's reaction after I killed Eunha, I just wish I could turn back time. The look of terror on her face reminded me exactly what I am, what my dad has turned me into.
The only thing I thought could be enough to make her think even the slightest bit better of me, was to bury Eunha. Normally, I wouldn't even bother to carry her out of the house, especially after she tried to kill Sana. But it felt like something she would do, something she would appreciate.
So no, I didn't do it for Eunha.
“Fuck.”
I turn around and see Sana, struggling to stay on her feet when she gets tangled in certain wires at the ground. A soft smile curves at my lips. One that's reserved only for her.
“This is excruciatingly annoying.” she huffs, pulling her legs out of the wires.
God, she's adorable.
“You all right back there Minatozaki? Or did the wires get to you?”
“Oh my god Chou, you're so funny.” she replies mockingly. But that just makes my smile grow wider as I turn my back on her and we continue walking.
“This is ridiculous.” she mumbles again. I slow my pace until I'm walking next to her.
“What is?”
She turns her eyes at me before she decides that the dirty road is far more interesting. “This whole ‘Gather at the edge of the village’. They just want to drag us there so we'll kill each other. It's pathetic.”
“And probably true though.”
Sana opens her mouth, probably to make some smartass comment but closes it again when the sound of light footsteps is heard. She pulls me back to the wall, her spread out arm keeping me in place. I look down at her arm over my stomach and then at her with a grin. She rolls her eyes and takes it away.
Two voices are being heard coming our way. I cock my gun and Sana takes out her father's pocket knife.
“You would be dead right now if I hadn't found you.”
“Yeah? So would you.”
“No I wouldn't!”
“Yes you would. You wouldn't even be able to find which way the edge of the village is!”
“Really? And you can?”
“Yes, I'm leading us there!”
Before I can prevent her from doing anything, Sana comes out of our hiding spot.
“Shit, Minatozaki what are you-”
“Jihyo!”
“Sana!”
I step away from the wall, gun clenched in my fist, and walk behind Sana who's embracing a girl, shorter than me with dark hair. My heart stings lightly at the sight but I just remind myself that maybe they're just friends and that everyone else would be much worthy of her than me.
“Tzuyu. I knew I'd get to see you again.”
A smile tugs at my lips when I see the guy next to Jihyo and Sana. “Hey Jay.”
“So, you teamed up with the new girl?” he asks as we start walking to the edge together, me and Jay at the back while Sana and Jihyo are in front of us.
“She sort of found me actually. The first night she came stumbling in my hiding spot.” I explain, not wanting to engage in more details. I'd prefer it a lot if my saving Sana's life stayed between the two of us.
“What about you?” I ask Jay, nodding towards Jihyo. She, having heard me, turns her head to us.
“Jay over here would have been dead if it weren't for me.”
“Yeah, keep trying to convince yourself that.” Jay mocks. “For the first two days I was on my own. I didn't come across anyone other than a few stray bats that came up to me when I was asleep. But, other than that, I was doing just fine on my own.” he finishes, emphasizing the last words while glancing at Jihyo's side.
“How about you Jihyo?” Sana asks.
Jihyo rolls her eyes. “I came across Elkie the second day. We fought for quite some time and she managed to take my key unfortunately.” she says, pulling down the collar of her shirt to show an empty neck. “Then I found Jay who was fighting with Kai and after we took him down we saw that he had no key.”
“Yep, that was me.” I cut in, showing the second chain around my neck.
“And then we found Yuto and Yuta, and Yuto's nose was broken badly.” Jay continues. At the mention of Yuto's name, I catch a movement with the corner of my eye. Sana stiffens slightly while walking in front of me and a shiver passes through her.
I nod at Jay and Jihyo who keep on bickering with each other and walk closer to Sana, my lips almost brushing her ear.
“It was Yuto, wasn't it?”
Sana jumps out of surprise and almost trips but I hold her wrist and pull her against me. I move my eyes to meet hers, flooding with too many emotions for me to count.
“Yuto was the one who shot you, right?”
Sana takes a shaky breath, never averting her gaze. “It doesn't matter.”
“If it doesn't matter, tell me.” I insist, repeating her words from when she asked me about my father.
She sighs deeply and closes her eyes. I slowly press my forehead on hers. “Tell me Sana.”
She shakes her head against my forehead. “Yes, it was Yuto. So what?”
I take in a deep breath. “I swear-”
“Hey guys! We're almost there!” Jihyo's loud voice interrupts me and has me pulling away from Sana and removing my grip on her wrist. Fortunately, Jihyo didn't see anything. And, as long as nobody does, I could keep on enjoying this.
Yuto is a member of the Japanese Mafia and so is Yuta. That's part of the reason why I'd rather not engage in any sort of small talk with him. The other part is the fact that he was responsible for Sana's state when she stumbled upon me.
I swear, the next time I see Yuto, he's going down.
