2021 TOKYO OLYMPICS

Women's Individual All-Around

Tokyo, Japan

"It's your favorite reporters, Jennifer and Anna, reporting live on the games of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics! South Korea's breakout star, 17-year-old Yu Jimin, qualified for the Women's Individual All-Around two days ago. She is the youngest competitor at this year's Olympics, and she is the favorite for the gold medal in both uneven bars and balance beam! She's gearing up to be the herald of a new generation of women's gymnastics, and champions like Rebeca Andrade and Simone Biles better watch out for this blazing fireball!"

"That's right, Jennifer! Yu Jimin's performance in the early stages of this Olympics has shocked and amazed many, and this newfound fame has drawn many to the stands to see their country represented! Popular Korean sibling duo AKMU, also known as Akdong Musician, have made their appearance in the stands, as well as hit K-drama actress Han Sohee. They are few among the massive turnout tonight, however, to see the ultimate showdown between the 17-year old and the greats before her!"

"Exactly, Anna. Now, let's take a look at today's finals! The first routine will be on the uneven bars, and Yu is actually the favorite to win this one, which is incredible. Looks like America's Biles is once again displaying her incredible prowess on every single gymnastics instrument. Look at that beautiful dismount, Jennifer! Not a single hop! Wow! Yu really has someone to beat today!"

"Right! Wow, look at Yu now, readying herself by the bars. She's applying chalk- wow, that's not a lot of chalk, in comparison to her great confidence!"

"Anna, wow, look at that incredible flip! It's amazing to watch Yu in action, she's so fluid. Look at the way she jumps from bar to bar- she's so in control of her body. Her leg strength must be incredible!"

"True, Jennifer, but her absence of chalk might pay- Oh? What's this? Yu is slipping on this turn. She just jumped a bit, looks like she's trying to regain her balance- She's going in for the last turn before her dismount-"

"Oh my God! Yu Jimin is off balance! Medics are swarming the uneven bars as 17-year-old Yu Jimin has crashed into the bar and landed on her right shoulder!"

"It looks like she's hit her head too! God, is she alright? Her coach is helping her off the mats now..."

"And we're back, after a short break! South Korea's 17-year-old breakout star Yu Jimin is officially out of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, thanks to a shattered right shoulder and cracked skull. Competing will continue as usual, with Korea's other gymnast Kim Jiwon hopefully making up the distance that Yu was meant to cover."

"That's right, Jennifer! And back to America... it looks as if Biles is taking a hiatus due to mental health issues..."

It hurt. Jimin had never acted like it didn't.

Being out of the 2021 Olympics was the last straw for her. That rejection hurt her more than anything else ever could. The disappointed looks in her family's eyes for her carelessness. Her overconfident coach had told her to apply less chalk, because several had already used the bars before her, that it would be fine.

It wasn't. The bar was cleaner than she'd expected, and she had slipped, her gloves unable to keep traction on the surface. She had dropped like a rock, her face smashing into the bar, her head snapping back as she hurtled towards the mat. She felt a sharp pain in her shoulder, and then everything went black.
