a/n: leon park is an OC.

Yu Jimin first met Kim Minjeong in her third year of high school.

They shared a class; apart from that, they rarely saw each other. Their friends knew each other generally, that sort of estranged acknowledgement people develop when they wave hello in the halls and are mutuals on Instagram. They kept up with each others' lives as best as possible, gasping at the important events and nodding at the smaller ones; it was a peaceful harmony in which the undisturbed waters of high school hierarchy remained as such- calm and glassy.

Except then Leon Park came into the picture.

The popular half-Korean exchange student from America was an instant hit with the school. He was a former model, with a perfect jawline, dark floppy hair, and chocolate eyes that glinted with mystery; he was an enigma, a paradox that every girl wanted to solve. The hierarchy of high school determined that he would have a girlfriend within the week.

The hierarchy also determined that his girlfriend would be Yu Jimin.

Jimin was the daughter of a chaebol family, and she came from old money; her grandfather had started a technological conglomerate that ballooned and kept the checks rolling in. She was undeniably gorgeous, with a small face and long dark hair; she had a perfect figure, perfect personality, perfect clothing. She was the fashion magazine of SM High: any time she wore something, other girls would mimic it almost exactly the next day; it was as if they kept retail websites open just to find the clothing she wore. But her clothing was designer, never copped: she was the It Girl of high school.

The hierarchy was, as usual, correct; Leon began to pursue Jimin.

Jimin never looked truly interested, however; she was always pleasantly dismissive, yet the school population took it as disguised interest.

But that disguised interest turned to real interest once Kim Minjeong came along.

They were juniors then, and entering junior year wasn't hard; but for Minjeong it was unfairly easy. She was gorgeous, on Jimin's level it seemed, and sweet. The school population was drawn to her like a magnet, and suddenly the spotlight was off of Jimin.

And again suddenly- Jimin was interested in Leon.

Too late. Leon was already after Minjeong.

So began the worst rivalry in SM High history.

It started out small, interrupting each others' conversations. Minjeong would be speaking to Leon, and then Jimin would brush past, wink at Leon, and apologize flirtatiously. Leon would blink, distracted, and forget Minjeong; Minjeong would then interject and draw the conversation back to her. Verbal barbs would be thrown back and forth with intensifying force, turning less into compliments for Leon and more into insults between the two girls.

Leon was confused, but after a while he began to play it up; his friends encouraged him to, and being new and susceptible, he did. There was a whole week during which Jimin and Minjeong would fight without speaking, but with outfits. It was unforgettable for everyone involved. If Jimin wore heels, Minjeong would wear ones the next day half an inch higher than Jimin's. If Minjeong wore a short skirt, Jimin would wear one a full inch shorter the day later. By the end of the week, students had grown used to it; yet Leon looked like he'd won the lottery.

Then it grew bigger- big splashes. Jimin and her cheerleaders did a routine at the football game Leon was playing in, and Jimin would wink and blow a kiss at him, waiting for Minjeong to burst out and do better. It was as if the two girls would fight only to do better than the other- no, neither ever thought about impressing Leon, only out-performing the other girl.
