~ seven ~

A party...a party...a party.

A party was JJ's way of coping with his dad's death. 

It didn't feel too unnatural to the group. JJ was a party boy after all, and he turned them all into party people.

"Do you really think a party is just gonna make all of his feelings go away?" Sarah asked Katie as they watched the boys drag a keg through the yard.

"No," Katie said, "He'll just numb them with alcohol and feel them when he's ready."

The girls sighed in unison. They had no clue what was in store for them tonight. None of them had any idea of what the Kooks were planning.

"Hey, can you guys come help me?" Kie called from the van.

The girls turned their heads in sync, finding Kie struggling with the packages of red solo cups. They laughed a little before running over to help their struggling friend.

"Just set them next to the keg," JJ informed the girls as he passed them, going to get the second keg from the van.

The girls nodded slightly before making their way across the yard to the small pavilion where the boys had placed the keg. They set the cups down and made their way back to the house to grab some food.

"Do we still have any of those crackers?" Katie asked as she made her way into the kitchen.

"I don't think so," Sarah called from the bathroom, she had made a pitstop to touch up her lipgloss, "I think we ate them all last night while watching movies."

Katie opened the cabinet and succumbed to disappointment when she found no crackers. She sighed and she closed the cabinet and spun around. She spotted a set of keys on the counter, Kie's keys, and she grabbed them.

"I'm gonna go grab some more," She informed Sarah as she passed the bathroom, "I can almost guarantee we'll have to sneak away from the party to stuff our faces."

She heard Sarah laugh in the bathroom as she walked onto the porch, causing her to smile.

Katie made her way through the front door and over to Kie's car.

"I'm gonna run to the store and grab some more crackers for Sarah and I," Katie shouted to Kie, "Kie, I'm taking your car!"

Katie looked over at the group to see she received a thumbs up from Kie. She smiled and gave a thumbs up back before hopping into the car and driving off.

"Thanks," Katie said to the cashier as she grabbed her bag, "Have a nice day."

The cashier smiled to Katie as the girl walked to the door. She pushed the heavy door open and began to make her way to Kie's car. But, before she could reach the door, a body stepped in front of her, preventing her from opening the driver's side door.

"Can I help y-" Katie's voice faded out as she looked up and saw Topper Thorton standing in front of her.

She took a short breath before speaking again.

"Topper, what do you want?" She asked, attempting to move around him, but Topper stepped in front of her.

"Listen, babe," Topper said, Katie rolled her eyes, "I want Sarah back. I know you two are close and all, so I need you to convince her to get back with me."

"Are you serious?" Katie exclaimed, "You want me to use my friendship with Sarah to convince her break up with John B and get back together with you?" She yelled.

"Yeah," He said.

Katie scoffed, "And what would I be getting for doing this?"

"I figured I could loan you and your friends a sum of money," He said, Katie tilted her head, "Each."

She scoffed again, and attempted to push him out of the way. But, just her luck, he knocked the bag out of her hand and onto the ground and pushed her up against the car, trapping her with his body.

"Are you gonna do, or not?" Topper asked, voice low and menacing.

Katie could feel his breath on her skin. His body was pressed against hers, causing her to spiral.

"I-no," Katie said.

She used all the strength she had in her to push Topper off of her. She turned around quickly and tried to get into the car, but it was locked. Curse her for always assuming the worst. She struggled to get the keys from her pocket, but before she could, Topper grabbed her arms and pulled her away from the car.

"Let go of me, Topper!" She shouted.

"I'll let go of you when you get John B to let go of my girlfriend!" He shouted.

That was the last thing Katie heard before everything went black.
