trigger warning: implied suicide
word count: 970The human mind is truly one of the most scariest things.
It can make you think of things you never would've thought about before one specific event that occurred. It can make you feel like you aren't enough. It can give you thoughts that the world would be better of without you in it.
For Brooke, her biggest fear wasn't spiders or not being able to perform a spell good enough. It was her mind, heart. The things that can only truly break someone. Everyone says that someone can break you, but in reality, it's the mind and heart that makes the person break.
The mind races with thoughts of the past while the heart loathes the mind for wanting to go back. The mind thinks of things that could make someone go insane. But only they know what they are thinking.
And in reality, isn't that what could destroy a person?
Her body was sore, her heart was hurting. It honestly just gave her an excuse to stay in bed, like she'd leave anyways. Her back was towards the door, not bothering to move when the door opened softly.
"Brooke," it was Draco. You could hear the sorry in his voice so clearly. The sound of his shoes echoed in the slinet room, the only sound was the wide that lingered ourside. The bed dipped and a hand went to her hip, causing her to flinch. He retracted it back quickly. "I'm so sorry.."
"You didn't do anything," she whispered. Her voice was barely audible. He stared at the girl, tears coating his eyes as he took notice of the bags under hers hues.
It broke his heart.
But he knew there was only one boy who wouldn't make the girl flinch at his touch, and at the moment he wasn't there. Draco looked at Brooke like a sister, and seeing her like this because of him or even because of Mattheo making a rage course through his body.
It seemed like whenever something was hard, Mattheo ran. When things settled, he'd come back. Everyone knew Mattheo dealt with his emotions differently, but it angered them. They just wanted the pair to help each other and it seemed that when one person was ready, the other wasn't.
Daphne felt like a horrible friend, but she knew Brooke wasn't blaming her, but she honestly kinda wanted her to. She should've been more careful. Brooke was happy for Daphne. She had always wanted to be a mother and she knew she'd make an excellent one.
Brooke was curled into her covers, the heaviness of the blankets giving her comfort. "But I did.." Draco said quietly.
"Daphne is gonna be a great mum, and you'll be a great dad." She whispered, blinking back the tears that glossed over her eyes. He saw the tears and sighed, going towards the door. He knew she wanted to be alone as much as he didn't want to leave her alone.
"I know I'm not Mattheo, but I'm always here. No matter what. Even if you just wanna be held, I'm here." He said, watching to make sure he heard her. She turned around, facing the blonde. Tears glided fast down her cheeks as she choked on her own sob. He quickly shut the door and brought her to his chest.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and sobbed into his shoulder. He scratched her back gently, his grip tightening on the broken girl in his arms. She sobbed harder at the feeling of him holding her. It gave her a sense of security, to be held by someone she looked at like a brother.
Slowly she melted against him, her body relaxing. He smiled softly and kissed her hair, pulling the covers over their bodies. He still scratched her back, not wanting to move. He just stared at her tear stained face. Even though they had dry tears, it was still the most relaxed he had seen her in a while.
The door opened quietly, revealing the blondes biological sister. She smiled at the sight of them softly and sat on the other end of the bed. She moved herself to be sitting against the wall, Brookes legs over her lap with the blanket still covering her body.
"I didn't hear anything so I wanted to make sure you were alive." Draco laughed gently but when Brooke stirred, he stopped quickly, pulling her tighter against him.
"Out of everyone...I never wanted this to happen to her. She deserves to world and the world isn't giving her much." He whispered, pushing hair back and away from her face. He kisses her hair, sighing gently.
"One day, she'll have the world. And we will be with her every step of the way."
"I'm just scared she's gonna try giving up again, and this time we won't be able to save her."
"I don't think she would...she had something to live for now." Draco looked up, anger taking over his features.
"Like what? Because she lost her child and her boyfriend isn't even here?" It was said harshly, but Belle didn't flinch, she just nodded.
"But she has a baby. Yes it may not be hers, but I know she'd do anything for them. Even though they are gonna be Daphs and yours, she'll take care of it like it's her own." Draco sighed, deflating slightly.
"I just don't wanna have to walk into that again.." He said, tears glassing over his hues. Out of everything in the group, him and Mattheo never cried. Belle knew Brooke meant the world to him, in a brotherly way.
But it dawned on him that maybe she was right. Maybe the mind was truly the scariest thing a person could have.
