CH1: ''Pauses and says you're my best friend''

Pond's pov : 

''Sir, I'm so sorry I really needed the money'' the trembling voice spoke out clearly breaking at the end, everyday drama. ''Ms. Jane, this was a very important deal for me, and you were my most trusted employe, but your greed overpowered your loyalty, tsk.'' my voice came out cold with a hint of disappointment lingering along. I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed knowing that my most qualified and trusted employe tried to leak our company secrets to the public. ''Now if you are done, you may leave. You'll receive your termination letter from June'' I said swinging my arm towards the door as I watched her leave the room sobbing. When the door was about to fully close, someone pulled the handle and entered the room. I looked up from my laptop to be met with the sight of my best friend standing in front of me. ''Why is your assistant packing up her belongings with blood shot eyes? did you fire her as well?'' Phuwin asked taking a seat, obviously expecting a no for an answer. ''I in fact did '' I said switching my gaze from him to my laptop typing faster than before. ''Huh? I thought she was the most trusted one in this office.'' he asked equally shocked and disappointed as I was. ''Yea not anymore. But what are you doing here at this hour?'' I said taking a look at the wristwatch that was a birthday gift from Phuwin himself, knowing he's usually at work at least upto 7 pm in the evening. ''Oh, I'm done arranging everything for Mr. Moon's weddin-'' his sentence was cut off by the ringing of his phone, he picked up the call with a slight frown as I shook my head and went back to typing. ''Oh yes yes, all the preparations are done and I'll definitely put tons of white roses at the venue before the ceremony starts. Yes, they'll be done by the morning yea ok no problem.'' I looked at him again as he cut the call with a sigh. ''What's so fun about arranging other peoples' weddings?'' I asked him, keeping my laptop aside as he gave me his signature side eye before speaking ''My profession makes more than enough money and I enjoy it, unlike your grumpy CEO ass''. He said making me gasp and scoff. ''Anyways let's grab lunch together I'm done for now'' I said standing up and grabbing his chair as he was spinning the chair. 

''Phuwin, this entire thing is so stupid. Weren't you an honor student at uni? seems like education is a scam.'' I said in disbelief putting down my fork, taking a sip of my coke. ''Stupid things become desirable when you are desperate. I can confirm at this moment we're extremely desperate and c'mon it's not that bad of an idea.'' he said intertwining his hands together determined to convince me to go on with his stupid idea. ''Look Pond, I already gave your mother my words and I'm not going to back off from my words.'' he said now his voice more serious than before as he took the last spoonful of rice from his plate. I let out a deep breath as my mind went back to the conversation, more like argument I had with my mother earlier this morning.

''Pond Naravit, I'm not getting any younger neither are you. You need to find someone suitable and settle down'' my mom said probably for the 10th time this week. ''Mom, I don't want to get married, not right now at least.'' I said, also for the 10th time this week. ''Then when? I have suggested finding a suitable partner for you, not like you ever listen'' she said as she shook her head, looking at me. ''Marriage is spending your life with the one you love and are ready to devote yourself to for lifetime. I have not met that someone yet.'' I said hoping she'll finally get my point. In my 26 years of living, I have only had 2 relationships, first one was definitely a teenage ''love'' type of situation while the second one lasted for 3 years and I was sure she was the one for me and we'll get married someday. It turned out only I thought so, she didn't. According to her we're not compatible enough and we were never meant to be, most importantly she and Phuwin never actually got along ''I genuinely wish you and Phuwin realize what you feel for each other and save others the heartbreak.'' I suddenly thought about the last thing she told me before walking away forever. ''I'm getting late for work. I'll call you at night'' I put on my suit and left the house without bothering for her reply. 

''Pond you there?'' I was brought back to reality as Phuwin flicked my forehead. ''Phu look, I know whatever you and mom are doing is out of care but let's be honest here, my last relationship made me realize how much a relationship is based on compatibility. I'm not compatible with anyone.'' I said with a sigh as flashbacks from my previous relationship came. ''Look, I'm not forcing anything on you whether u want to get married or not it's absolutely on you. What I'm trying on say is go on dates and you don't even have to find the dates, I'll help you'' he said again trying to convince me ''No Phuwin. Blind dates are not my cup of tea.'' I said folding my arms on my chest. ''Give me 10 days and I'll find 10 ways and people for you. If those 10 days pass without u finding someone compatible and suitable for you. I promise to never bug you about this topic ever again and if you die alone, I'll die alone with you.'' he said putting forward a deal with a huge smile. ''I thought your job was to arrange the preparations for the wedding, not arrange marriages'' I said not even denying his deal because it's not easy to stop a determined Phuwin, that's something I've learnt being best friends with him for over 10 years. ''I can do both, so we'll see about that'' he said clicking his tongue. 

''Do you know what your ideal type is?'' Phuwin asked breaking the comfortable silence in the car after I started driving 10 mins back. ''Someone respectful, caring, loyal? Idk Phuwin, someone that understands me the way you do'' I said turning my gaze from the road to him and our eyes met as he was already looking at me. I really don't know what I want but I do know what I don't want whenever I think of compatibility, I can't help but think of Phuwin probably because he's my best friend. He pauses for a moment before replying ''You're my best friend, I'll find someone worthy of you.'' he said with a soft smile that made my lips slightly curl up.

 As we finally reached his house, we bid our goodbyes, and he got out of the car and started walking towards the door. I waited until he reached the door, only to run back to my car and knock on the window. I lowered the windows down, raising an eyebrow at him. ''I'll meet you at your office by 3:30 pm tomorrow. So, be ready to meet the first potential future partner'' he said as he waved at me and ran back to the house without waiting for a reply. As he reached the door, he looked back one last time as we waved at each other one last time before I drove back to work. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
