“It won't f*cking close Kimba!” I yelled in frustration as I tried to zip up my suitcase. The school term had ended and we all had two weeks to go home and visit our families. Both me and Kimberley were packing, but I couldn't close my suitcase.

“Have you folded everything and put it in properly?” She asked, not even bothering to turn around and look at the mess I was in.

“Erm, sort of.” I hadn't folded everything as neatly as she had, I had just crammed it all in hoping that it would close.

“Wait until I've done mine and then I'll help you with yours.” Kimberley replied. She was in a bad mood, not because of me though. It was because she didn't want us to be separated for two weeks. To be honest, I wasn't looking forward to it either. I liked spending everyday with her. It was going to be weird not to.

After she had finished packing her suitcase, she came over to mine. Pushing me off the top of it, she opened it up and emptied it's contents out onto the floor. She then began folding and packing everything.

“You know you're the best friend I've ever had?” I asked her as I hugged her from the side. We were still sitting on the floor packing my suitcase. Well Kimberley was packing it, she wouldn't let me help. Every time I tried to, she'd hit my hand away.

“You know you're the most annoying best friend I've ever had?” She replied with a smile.

“Well since you tell me that everyday, yes I do know that.”

Kimberley and I were walking back to our dormitory. We had just been to see Nicola, Sarah and Nadine. They had all left to get their trains home. I was going to miss the three of them but we promised to phone each other every Friday for a catch up. Kimberley was still being a lot quieter that usual, but it was just because she didn't want to go home. From what she told me, she didn't exactly get along with her family.

We were both leaving in an hour anyway, her family were driving here to pick her up, and a taxi was coming for me to take me to the train station. As the time went on, the more I realised I was going to miss Kimberley. I was going to have no one to insult or have a laugh with. In the mornings, I wasn't going to wake up in the same room as her.

To pass the time, we sat in our dormitory and talked about random things. I was trying to take both our minds off the fact that we would be leaving soon. Kimberley soon got bored of talking though and got up from her bed and lay down next to me on mine. She wrapped her arms around me and cuddled into me. I hugged her back tightly and lay next to her, enjoying the silence.

“Kimba... that's time to go down.” I whispered as I rubbed her back, waking her up. In the hour that we had left, she had fallen asleep and I didn't want to wake her because she seemed so peaceful.

“I don't want to go!” She groaned as she sat up.

“Me neither, but we have to.” I stood up and took her hand in mine. We both got our suitcases and dragged them out of the room with us.

Outside, along with a bunch of other parents, we spotted Kimberley's family and the taxi I was meant to be getting. They were parked next to each other, which was a good thing because it meant we had a bit longer with each other.

“I'm going to apologise now if my family offend you.” Kimberley whispered to me as we got closer. “I swear, they're a bunch of psychos.”

“Can't be any worse than mine.” I whispered back as I gave her hand a squeeze.

We stopped in front of Kimberley's family. They were all there, even her brother and sisters. They all looked a bit like Kimberley, but she was still the prettiest. I watched as she let go of my hand and gave them all a hug and a kiss each. They weren't really paying attention though, they were all staring at me.

“Oh, this is my friend Cheryl.” Kimberley said when she realised everyone was looking at me. “She's my room mate and best friend.”

“So this is the famous Cheryl you talk about on the phone?” Her mum replied as she looked at me up and down. I blushed slightly at the fact Kimberley talks about me on the phone.

“It's nice to meet you, Mrs Walsh.” I smiled and stuck out my hand which she shook.

“So where are you from?”

“My mam's womb.” I joked, nudging Kimberley in the side before we both started laughing uncontrollably. “I'm from Newcastle.” I replied seriously after I had composed myself.

“Oh.” Was all Kimberley's mum said. I don't think she liked me very much. There was an awkward silence and finally Kimberley's dad spoke.

“Well Kimberley, I think we should get going so say goodbye to your friend.”

“My best friend.” Kimberley corrected before she turned to face me.

I opened my arms wide and pulled her in for a hug. She hugged me back so tightly that I could hardly breathe, but I didn't care. It was worth it.

“I'm gonna miss you so much Kimba.” I whispered into her ear.

“I'm gonna miss you so much Chezza.” She whispered back. “I think I might go crazy without you!”

“I doubt it.” I laughed. “I've got something for you.” I pulled out of the hug and rummaged through my travel bag. I pulled out the book that I had stolen from Kimberley the first day we met and handed it to her. “I haven't finished it yet because the words are confusing, but it's your favourite book so I thought you might want it back until we come back here.”

She pushed it back to me and shook her head. “You keep it. That way you can be sure that I'm definitely coming back no matter what.”

“Were you not going to come back?” I raised my eyebrow mockingly, like she always used to do to me.

“Of course I was, I couldn't live without my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Tweedy, could I?”

“Well that's good because I don't think I'd be able to live without my Yellow Power Puff Girl Kimba.”

“You promise you'll call everyday?” She suddenly asked, I could see the tears forming in her eyes.

“Yeah, I promise. I'll call whenever you want me to.” I replied pulling her in for another hug. It was silly, but I really didn't want to let her go.

“Kimberley Jane, we need to go!” Her mum interrupted.

“Oh, you're getting your middle name too. You're in trouble.” I joked as we broke apart.

“I'm gonna miss you 'Chezza Tweedster thinks Mr Davidson is a d*ckhead'.”

“And I'm going to miss you 'Kimba Walshster thinks the name 'Chezza Tweedster thinks Mr Davidson is a d*ckhead' is stupid'.”

She smiled and I watched as she walked towards her car with her family. Just before she got in, I called on her. “Oh Kimba?” She turned to face me. “Don't forget about Harold!”

“Shut up Chezza!” She laughed. “I'll talk to you soon!” She got into the car before she got into any more trouble.

I turned to the taxi driver who was standing outside the car, laughing at the situation. He put my bags in the taxi as I got in. I watched as Kimberley drove away with her family, and then the taxi started to move too. I was glad to be going home and visiting my family, but I was going to miss Kimberley so much.
