Kimberley's Point of View
As soon as we got into the car and drove away from the school, my parents started freaking out at me for being friends with Cheryl. If I'm honest, I knew it was coming, but I didn't want to listen to them. She was my best friend, the only best friend I had ever had, and there was no way they were going to take that away from me.
“... all we're saying is that we don't think she's a good influence on you!” My mum eventually finished talking. I hadn't been listening to a word she had said, instead I was looking out the window trying to get distracted by anything that I could.
“How would you even know if she is or isn't? You met her for like five minutes.” I replied with a sigh. Nothing they were going to say was going to change my mind about Cheryl. They didn't even know her.
“Well, she just doesn't look like it. I me-”
“Is this because she wasn't wearing designer clothing?” I cut my mum off because I knew where this was going. “Guess what mum? If you didn't force me to wear it, then either would I! I don't care that Cheryl doesn't have designer clothes or the newest mobile phone like I do! At the end of the day, she was the girl who made me feel welcome and stuck up for me when I needed it!”
Knowing that she wasn't going to win that argument, she moved onto something else. “She's a thief Kimberley, she admitted to stealing your book! She swears too!”
“Well why don't we lock her up right now?” I laughed sarcastically. “She didn't really steal my book, I knew she had it and I gave her it to read! So what if she swears, everyone f*cking does it mum! Get over it, we don't live in the olden days any more!”
The whole car went silent. I knew I was in the wrong for swearing at my mum, but she shouldn't have been attacking Cheryl like that when she didn't even know her. She was upset and didn't say anything else to me. I think she was waiting for me to apologise, but I wasn't going to do that until she apologised for talking about Cheryl like that.

As soon as the car stopped outside the house, I grabbed my suitcases from the car and stormed straight up to my room. I knew I was probably going to be sent there anyway so I thought I'd go up myself so I didn't have to talk to my parents any more. I didn't even bother to unpack my suitcases, I just left them in the middle of the room and collapsed onto my bed.
As I lay there, I thought about Cheryl. She would be on the train now, she would be getting off in about two hours time and her mum was going to meet her and take her home. She had promised that as soon as she got home she would text me to let me know she was safe. Even though I knew she'd be fine on the journey, I couldn't help but worry about her. It was in my nature and I couldn't help it.
With my phone in my hand, I closed my eyes and tried to relax. It was weird not having Cheryl chatting away to me, but because I was so tired I got over it and drifted off to sleep.

“Kimberley, mum says dinners ready!” Amy shouted, causing me to wake up. She was standing next to my bed grinning cheekily at me. She was so annoying sometimes.
“Right, I'm coming!” I snapped as I ran my hand through my bed hair. Taking my phone with me, I walked downstairs and into the dining room to eat dinner with my family.
They obviously didn't understand that I didn't want them talking about Cheryl, because soon enough the conversation was back on her. I bit my tongue, trying not to say anything else bad to them, but it was hard. It annoyed me that they were making judgement on my best friend that they had only met for five minutes!
“I think she's hot!” Adam grinned. “She has a nice body.”
“Don't talk about her like that!” I shouted, kicking him from under the table. “She's my best friend!”
“MUM! Kimberley kicked me!”
“Honestly Kimberley, you've not even been back a day and you're already causing trouble!” She sighed in frustration. “Why did you kick him?”
“Are you serious? Did you not hear what he said about Cheryl? He can't talk about her like that, she's mine!” I was getting angrier by the second. “If you're so annoyed at me causing trouble, I suppose you'll be glad that I'm going back in two weeks then!”
“Kimberley, what has gotten into you?” My dad asked. “This school was meant to be good for you!”
My phone started ringing causing me to stop paying attention to what my dad was saying. As soon as I saw Cheryl's name flash up on the screen, I smiled and all my anger disappeared. I stood up from the table as I pressed the 'accept' button and pressed the phone to my ear.
“Hey Kimba, is that you?” I couldn't help but smile at her voice, I had missed it even though it had only been a few hours.
“No, it's the queen.” I giggled. “Of course it's me babe!”
“Oh you're so funny!” I could imagine her rolling her eyes dramatically at me. “How were your parents?”
“Don't even start with them. I swear, they're already driving my insane. My whole family is!”
“Aww babe, it can't be that bad!”
“No, believe me it is! So how was your train journey?”
“Horrible!” She groaned. “First of all, I had this woman with this massive a*se sitting next to me and she took up like half my seat, and then when she eventually got off, an old guy sat next to me and he fell asleep on my shoulder!”
“Eww, that sounds horrible!”
“It was, I'm scarred for life now!” She joked.
“Of course you are Miss Drama Queen!”
“I really miss you.” Cheryl suddenly said, her voice turning serious.
“I miss you too, but it's only two weeks. We can do this Tweedster!”
“Okay then Walshster. I need to go, my mam's made dinner. I'll call you before I go to bed though. Is that okay?”
“That's fine babe, speak to you soon.”
“Bye babe.”
The phone line went dead and I put my phone into my back pocket of my jeans before returning to the dining room. My family all looked up at me as I walked in, they weren't happy that I had ran out the room to take the phone call. Sighing quietly to myself, I took my seat back at the table waiting for the lecture I was about to be given. I didn't care though because it was worth it, I had gotten to speak to Cheryl for a few minutes and knowing that she was okay and missing me was worth any punishment.
