It had been a week, and it was safe to say I was missing Kimberley. We talked every night on the phone, but it wasn't the same. I missed her being around me and making jokes with me. I was missing the other girls too, I hated coming home. I mean, I loved seeing my family again, but I liked being at school with my friends. I didn't like the learning part though, that bit can go.

After dragging myself out of bed and having a shower, I went downstairs and into the kitchen. My brother Gary and my mam were sitting at the table eating their breakfast, they had made some for me too. I took a seat next to Gary and began eating as well.

“So, how is school going? I haven't had a call from them in ages, are you behaving?” My mam asked.

“Aye, I'm behaving.” I smiled proudly. “School's going great, I've made a new friend. I've told you about her on the phone though, you know, Kimberley?”

“Oh yeah pet, I remember you telling me about her. Is she the good influence on you?”

“Yeah, she's really smart you know, and she's always helping me out with my homework and stuff.” I couldn't help but smile when I spoke about her. She always made me so happy.

“What does she look like?” Gary asked, suddenly taking an interest.

I took my phone out my pocket and found a picture of me and Kimberley that I had taken the night we had gone to the party. It was when we were still in our room and we had just finished getting ready. I handed it to Gary and his eyes grew wider.

“She's pretty, is she the same age as you?”

“Gary! Don't you dare get any ideas!” I shouted as I snatched my phone off him. “She's my best friend!”

Gary was only fourteen, and the thought of him fancying Kimberley made me feel sick. She was my best friend, I felt like I needed to protect her, he couldn't like her.

“Oi Cheryl, don't be mean to your brother!” My mam warned as she began to was the plates we had used for breakfast. “He's only young.”

“So? He fancies my best mate! He can't do that!” I fumed as my mam rolled her eyes at me and turned her attention back to washing up. I glared at Gary from across the table and he smirked back at me.

Suddenly, my phone started ringing, interrupting us. I looked at the flashing screen to see that it was Kimberley calling. I grabbed the phone and ran out the room before pressing the accept button and placing the phone to my ear.

“Hey babe!” I practically screamed in excitement.

“Hey Chezza, how are you?” I knew she'd be smiling right now, just like I was.

“I'm great, now that you've called!”

“Aww, have you been missing me?”

“Yes! I've missed you lots babe. So how are you?”

“I'm good, going out with the family today. I really can't be bothered. I'm really missing you too babe. Without you, I'm getting into trouble.”

“What?” I gasped. “Kimba Walshster is getting into trouble? What did you do?”

“Oh don't act so surprised!” She giggled. “I didn't do anything bad, I just shouted at my parents, they were p*ssing me off.”

“What were they doing?” I heard Kimberley hesitate on the other end of the phone, I knew she didn't want to tell me. I had a feeling I knew what it was about though. “Come on, you can tell me..”

“They just don't understand why we're friends.” She sighed. “But don't worry, I stuck up for you.”

“Thanks. I didn't think your family liked me very much..”
