The more I sit outside with him, the less I worry about getting caught. After years of doing it, even going so far as treating it as a Sunday tradition in what was definitely teenagehood, it's kind of hard to still be tense.
He never outgrew walking on the edge of the roof as though he’s untouchable. I’m pretty sure he’s convinced that he actually is at this point. Even though that's only one thing about him that consistently worries me, it pains me to admit that it's the only reason I leave my room for something other than WICKED. Our late night adventures mean the absolute world to me. If I had to give those up, I’d definitely lose my mind. I wouldn't even look at WICKED until I had them back again. They're the only time we can be comfortable saying whatever was on our minds. I’d have to bottle my feelings up until they exploded if my alone time with him was ever stolen.
Holding his hand so he wouldn't fall off, I glanced at his feet to make sure I was going the same pace before continuing, listening to him ramble.
“And that constellation is called Cassiopeia. It's most likely the first one anybody thinks of,”He explained, pointing above his head. I followed his finger to a line of five sparkling stars that slightly bent. Standing on my tip toes like it would allow me to touch them, I took in the beauty of the night sky yet again.
“Am I boring you?”He questioned.
“Of course not,”I assured him.
“You mean if?”
“Yeah. I’m never bored with you,”I promised.
“In that case,”He said slowly, slipping his hand out of my grip. Snapping my head towards him, I watched him walk further away. Already knowing he was up to something, I followed, being sure to stand beside him in three seconds.
“Aris-”
“See ya’, pretty thing,”He said with no explanation, winking at me. Still, I froze at the words as the atmosphere at the very least for me changed, my mouth growing dry as my breath was caught in my throat. I couldn't find a way to make words come out as my heart was racing in my chest, and my palms were dripping with sweat.
Giving me proof that my reaction was exactly right, he stepped back, his body facing me and head turned to the sky. With his arms out, he put one foot over the edge.
Coming back to my senses, I yelled his name as I frantically grabbed his shirt, yanking him forward. He almost stumbled as I forced him off the ledge, pulling him close to me. Tightening my hold on his collar, I was panting as I made sure we were eye to eye while giving him the closest glare I was capable of, tears stinging them. Blinking them away, I ignored the way I was shaking. I’m not sure whether he even noticed as his face lost color, eyes wide and lips parted in a frown.
“You're such a dick,”I genuinely insulted, every ounce of playfulness leaving my mind.
“Y/N-”
“Fuck off,”I snapped, finally letting go as I stormed to the exit. Tuning out the way he called my name while trailing behind me, I hurried down the ladder, jumping halfway just for the sake of avoiding him. Even as I landed on my knees and ripped my pajama pants, I stood up and slammed the door open.
“I’m sorry,”He repeated. Ignoring his excuse of an apology, I went to run only for him to grab my wrist.
“Don't-”
Spinning me around, he grabbed my hand and locked our fingers together. Giving him another harsh look, I pulled my hand out just for him to hold his arm against the wall while still lightly retaining my wrist.
“Let me go,”I demanded.
“I’m sorry. I didn't mean to freak you out that badly. I wasn't going to do it. I really wasn't. I was just trying to mess with you.”
