My first day of school wasn't so bad, if we're cutting out the girl who had been following me for the entire day. She had wavy blonde hair, and big blue eyes. At first glance, you'd say she was your typical mean girl who would destroy your entire high school career just because she wanted to, but I could see past her. She was just curious about me. Also, her eyes seemed to fall upon my brother even more, sending a smile his way now and then. She was curious about him too, in many ways other than simply wanting to know him.
After third period, I walked in the corridors and looked around to look for my brother—who was nowhere to be found. I swear to God if he already left without me, I will dagger him. Not to death, but still. He will deserve it after making me go through an entire day listening to humans blabbering non-stop. Most of the teenagers I overheard only talked about gossip. Nothing interesting really, it seemed that this town was extremely nosy, wanting to know about everyone's lives and all.
That blonde girl seemed to be as nosy as everyone else, since I could see her advancing towards me with confident strides, leaving her clique behind her. I looked behind me, hoping that she was walking towards somebody else. Nobody was behind me. At that moment, I understood she was walking towards me. I looked around for a quick exit, but surprisingly she was much faster and grabbed my arm.
"Hey! You must be the new girl, right?" She asked me with an over exaggerated smile on her face. Her voice was high-pitched, and her cheeks were too rosy. I could see she was excited.
I nodded and smiled awkwardly. "Yes, that's me."
She squinted her eyes, looking me up and down before offering another smile. "You're Stefan's sister."
I tilted my head and almost laughed out loud. Of course she'd know who Stefan was, he must've talked about himself to people already. "His twin sister, yes."
She gasped. "Twin? You don't even look like him!" She exclaimed and I laughed at her reaction. Fake laugh, of course.
"Yes!" I nodded and looked around curiously. "Do you...know where Stefan is by any chance?" If someone at this school would know where he was, it would surely be her. She seemed to be the type to know everything about everyone.
"Nope."
Guess not. "It was nice to meet you," I told her quickly and turned to walk away, but she grabbed me by the arm once again. I sighed. "Yes?"
"Well, what's your name?" She asked me.
I raised my eyebrows in surprise. Well since Stefan had been opening his mouth since this morning, I had guessed he had also told my name to everyone. It seemed he had only talked about himself and left that information out.
"Francesca," I replied simply before nodding at her. "And you?"
She offered me a big smile. "I'm Caroline Forbes! It is nice to meet you Franny—if you'll let me call you that. Francesca seems like a mouthful."
I pressed my lips together. "It's really not—"
"It's a beautiful name, don't get me wrong!" She tried explaining, thinking she had insulted me accidentally without noticing. She hadn't. I just didn't want her to call me Franny.
"Thank you!" I tried to explain to her, "But—"
"So, Franny, why did you move to Mystic Falls again, with your twin brother and uncle?"
I frowned. Uncle? What has Stefan been telling people that I don't even know? God, he's infuriating.
"Uh... we missed the town? Excuse me, but I need—""But why did you leave in the first place?"
I held myself together not to snap at her. The thought of compelling her to forget everything and let me go initially came to my mind, but I shook it off immediately. I gave her a false smile instead to appear as friendly as I could.
"Why not?" I laughed, and Caroline tilted her head. "My uncle's in the military so we had to go, but he loves this place so he thought it would be good for us to come back here. Wherever he goes, we go."
"Oh," she nodded at the fake information. "Military. That must mean you move around a lot then?"
"Yeah, we do." I shrugged. "Anyways, I really need to go. I'll see you around Caroline."
Her eyes widened and she nodded quickly. "Right, sorry for keeping you here. I'll see you tomorrow Franny." She waved at me and then left, leaving me standing there contemplating my life choices. At least I made a friend, sort of.
I turned around about to exit the building before my eyes fell upon my dear brother—who didn't even see me at all. He was walking quickly, looking around as if looking for someone. Someone being that girl that I saw today, no doubt. He pushed open the door and immediately left. I scoffed and followed him outside.
I tried walking as fast as possible, and as soon as I reached him, I grabbed his arm and made him stop."What are you doing?" I asked him perplexed, looking in the distance to see who he was following. That girl from this morning was walking away, and towards the route leading to the cemetery. I lifted an eyebrow and stared at Stefan. "Please don't tell me you're following her like a creep."
"I'm not," he poorly defended himself. I scoffed and crossed my arms.
"Right. Who are you going to visit at the cemetery? Our dad?" I asked sarcastically.
Stefan didn't find my comment amusing since he could only stare at me in boredom. He didn't even answer and began walking away.
"Stefan!" I called out to him in frustration. He only turned around and waved at me.
"I'll see you at home." He shouted back and turned back around to continue following that girl. Poor girl. I shook my head at my brother's act and began walking home myself.
