Finally, we are all seated and in my hand is a new wine glass. Thank god cause Im not sure Im going to survive this just out of pure excitement. To my right side is Lewis and in front of him is George. In front of me however, is Toto.
I just finished my conversation with Hamilton about how corrupt the sport world can still be and now both drivers are asking me questions about myself. Things like "Did you always know you were going to end up in F1 news" (no I didn't)
"What would you do if you weren't in f1 news?(Author or some boring thing) "your parents must be proud of me and my sister" (my sister yes definitely me um sure yes me too (no they are not)) "you look beautiful in this dress (thank yo.. wait what)
I answer most of this questions truthfully, well at least in my head but when Lewis compliments me, I stop the preprogrammed answers. You know the ones you give distant relatives or people that you aren't actually friends with but you are trying to be nice with.
Russell agrees with Lewis and I can't help but blush. The question is more: who wouldn't?
I pretend its the alcohol.
Such an absurd scenario. One day I'm crying on the paddock and on another I sit with two professional race car drivers, Toto Wolff and the heads of big companies that sponsor Mercedes.
If I went back in time, just about 2 weeks ago, where I had no idea what the future holds and I would tell her who Im sitting at the table with, past me probably just run away.
The thing is, Im not the most confident person and If my friend Amelia didn't scream at me to go tonight, I probably wouldn't have gone. It's easy to sit behind a desk, writing or listening but I've not always been brave enough to step out of my comfort zone. Tonight is so far out of my comfort zone that I can already feel the buzzing under my skin from the alcohol. Being a bit tipsy just makes me more chatty and gives me some confidence. Along side a cute rosy blush on my cheeks, by the way.
"God Im hungry. You think we are getting our food soon?"
Lewis complains next to me and I can't help but laugh a little. For someone that needs an extrem amount of patience in their Job Hamilton certainly doesn't have any when it comes to food. I agree with him, however, since my stomach is already making all kinds of noise and the plates from the neighboring tables start looking a bit too delicious.
Toto, on the other hand, is having conversations with some of the sponsors and the head engineer that sits to my right. Before he had sat down, he took off his suit jacket and I couldn't help but observe the way his dress shirt stretched over his shoulder muscles. Another one of those moments where I think if I should have just turned down the job offer.
I try to understand what they are talking about and I quickly gather it is about a past sponsor dinner that must have turned into quite the party.
"That sounds like it was fun"
I chime in
All of their heads turn towards me. Why did I drink so much wine again? Already regretting all my decisions, I think about an escape plan but the face of one of the sponsors softens and he starts smiling as if he is remembering.
"Ahh yes, those were the times"
He continues to slightly shake his head
" Toto, Toto, do you remember the night of the Christmas party?"
"Oh god"
Toto responds and rubs his eyes with his right hand. My imagination jumps to a different version of Toto. Maybe more casual clothed, probably drunk, his hair messy and sweaty. Somewhere surrounded with people and alcohol. Loud music, heated air and my body pressed against him while I sway my hips. A hot breath on my neck and along with fingertips trailing up my side. Tingles spread across my skin.
Suddenly someone puts something in front of me and the image my mind so carefully created is gone. Along with the heat that was building inside me.
Only when my mind is fully back, I realise that our food has been brought. Next to me, Lewis takes a big bite and makes a pleased moan. I have to hold back a laugh. All the others are also already focused on eating, except Toto. He is looking at me.
