HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DANIEL.

THE CONVERSATION JENNY HAD with Johnny Lawrence mostly concerned the summer prior. The "summer of love." Their nearly year long situationship until they'd attended a party together, and that night - the word got out that Johnny Lawrence had only ever even looked at Jenny for sex.

While it was the furthest thing from the truth, Johnny didn't know what to do - so he did nothing. After Jennifer had dropped him from that, all of his friends took it upon them selves to spread the weirdest lies about her. Those didn't bother her much, what bothered her was what they said that was true. What they said about her appearance, and the way she carried herself in all.

She was ridiculed for the rest of the summer, and of course hadn't spoken to any boys - not until Daniel Larusso. His soft smile comforted her, told her this time - it'd be okay.

And getting to know him more, it felt a lot like this time - she'd be safe.

So of course, on his birthday she went all out. They'd been going steady for no longer than a month, but the months building up to that surely did mean a lot to them both. Daniel Larusso enjoyed the fact that Jennifer Medina accepted him for him, and Jennifer Medina enjoyed the fact that he accepted her for her.

She rushed around her room, she wore her fanciest sweater with jeans, and some mary jane's that she hoped not to get too dirty. Her hair was down, curled perfectly in every way and she wore more makeup than usual.

Jenny made her way to the Larusso residence, and from the outside - Jennifer could tell that Lucille had been decorating all afternoon. It was dark out, and once Jennifer let herself in - she took notice to the fact that Daniel wasn't there.

It was beautiful though, intimate and sweet - the way Mrs. Larusso set everything up. She held her heart at the sight of Jenny, and was quick to place a kiss on her temple. "You made it. That can go on the table, sweetie."

Jennifer helped Mrs. Larusso set up while she went to get ready, and when the doorknob rattled finally at 8:20, Jennifer turned quickly from the sink - and her eyes met Daniel's.

He wore his red jacket, and under that a green sweater. His eyes lightened at the sight of his girl, and she smiled - drying her hands before playfully holding them up.

"Surprise?" She spoke, watching as Daniel made his way over to her, his brows furrowed.

"Wha - you said you had to study?"

"On your birthday?" Jenny tilted her head as Daniel's arms hugged her torso, pulling her into his grip and smiling into the hug. She was thankful Daniel believed her lie earlier, and when he pulled away - he was close to pressing a kiss against her lips but he jumped at the sound of his mother's voice.

"Is that the birthday boy?" She called out - clearly worried that he might have seen his surprise already, Daniel's arm left Jenny as she urged him to cover his eyes, and he did so just in time.

"Don't worry - I got him." Jenny spoke confidently, and Lucille sighed in content, nodding.

"Okay, okay. Don't open them yet." She ordered, Jenny kept her hands against Daniel's to ensure he kept them there and he smiled at the feeling.

"Alright..." Lucille cleaned the counter up, placing the sweet homemade cake against the counter and she smiled down at it before looking up to her son. "Open."
