TW: HOMOPHOBIA
your assignment for this week is to write a poem about your favourite person' Keating babbled , waiting for the class bell to go in order to rid himself of the insufferable teenage boys that were his English class 'see you all tommorow' he said before prancing out of the classroom. Todd's favourite person was also the person he loved , how could he deal with the burden of his stupid queerness? he asked himself, but he knew the answer. Before he even realised it, everyone filed out of Keating's class and he saw Neil looking at him, worriedly because he wasn't alert as he usually is.

'are you okay , Todd?' he knew this question would come up in their conversation, and he dreaded it 'u-uhm..' he couldn't come up with an answer 'yeah, just thinking.' 'aahhh' he said, letting the breath he swore he hadn't held out at the confirmation that Todd was alright 'so, who are you writing your poem about? mine's definitely not my father, perhaps Charlie?' Todd was avoiding the thought that Neil didn't think of him as his favourite person, though he knew it was true. Words flew onto the paper, even if they were words describing wrong actions.

he couldn't sleep that night, due to his 'dreams', or better yet, nightmares making fun of him. all anyone said when they heard his poem was 'stupid f4gg0t' and he even imagined Neil never talking to him again. In his pyralysis, he resolved the problem with confessing his feelings. 'I love you, Neil Perry. ever since I laid eyes on you.' he swore a slight smirk came onto the brunette's face, but the darkness covered any evidence of that. Neil didn't seem it, but he was awake. and he managed to hear the confession to Todd reciprocating his feelings. he wanted to say 'goddamnit, I love you too, Toddy!' fact, he wanted to do much more than say it, Neil wanted to scream it from Welton's rooftops, shout it in the world's face and flaunt it. He knew it would be frowned upon, but there were no frowns when he was with Todd.

every boy threw themselves into O captain, My captain's class to get the poetry reading over with, just like Todd preparing for the Dead Poets meetings. 'I can sense your misery from a mile away, lads.' he exaggerated 'which one of you shall I pick on?' yet, nobody could exaggerate Todd's feelings, or his dread to read his horrible poem. 'How about... Neil?' upon hearing the last word, his name, he turned pale as a ghost 'u-uh sir, i mean O captain, my captain, do i have to do it?' Todd sensed urgency in his voice, like he actually didn't want to present. Everyone laughed, but Neil didn't kid around. 'f+ck..' he sighed in defeat from Mr. Keating. 'c-carpe, carpe diem' he said, before commiting to a very non confident stance at the front of the class

'ever since I laid eyes on you'
By Neil Perry

My eyes set upon a god,
a boy with a heart that poured
poured, into poetry
he changes the way poets seem
from sweaty-toothed madmen
to some bad pun
love like this sucks,
makes me wish to be hit by
10,000 trucks
I can't hold back
my attack
with 1 thousand kisses
or my wishes
to shower you
with my love,
for who?
T, for the thrill and thought you give,
encouraging me to live
O, for the one and only
when others were phony
D, for the dreamy delight
you provide for me, even in dark night
D, for the delicate desire
for your body, lips and attire
ever since I laid eyes on you.

he let out a breath as Keating shot a look to Todd, who looked petrified, but was still blushing and 'subtly' (very clearly) smirking. 'wow, Perry I knew I could trust you to go first!' he snapped out of his stare into Todd's eyes to smile at Keating 'see, class Neil's poem illustrates true, true love for their favourite person, and bravery to tell them' he looked to Todd again and whispered to Neil 'i'm curious to see what Mr Anderson's poem is about now..'

'hey, Neil..' the silence had never been louder in the dorm before 'I liked your poem..' 'oh yeah? well I never got to hear yours..' he showed a pleading look on his face when he said the last part of his sentence 'fineeeee, since you asked nicely..' he gathered the furled paper from his drawer and began to read

insert poem (i'll add one this time trust, im just a lil tired 😭😭)

when Todd looked up from his poem, the last thing he saw was Neil leaning in and placing his warm hands that were born to be on Todd's face, on Todd's face. 'what was that for?' 'you just looked so passionate!' they both laughed 'you know... that poem was about' Neil waited in anticipation 'YOU' they both screamed out at the same time. Todd wasn't this sure how Neil was so casual about romance, while he was blushing as red as a tomato and still couldn't believe that Neil liked him back. he was too good to be true, from the day that Todd laid eyes on Neil.
