~several weeks later~

"H/n he's around the corner" Keigo speaks through the earpiece

"Ready now"

I destroy the wall when Keigo gives me the signal, setting up a smokescreen and successfully slow down the target. Keigo flies through after the target who frantically tries to escape but to no avail. In mere seconds Keigo has him pinned the ground as the dust settles revealing the two on the pavement.

"Nice job Hawks, H/n" Mirko jogs over to us, giving him a high five and me a nod.

Mirko has been joining us for missions and patrol over the last few weeks. Some days i'm even dismissed from his side and sent elsewhere while she takes my place.

As usual, i've said nothing about the arrangement

"Just head back and take care of the paperwork" is what he usually says after

Keigo doesn't return until late that night. He knocks on the locked door to my room—the room I've begun to sleep in the last few weeks since he's been out most nights. While he's been out doing that, i've been trying to find more intel on the league without him knowing. I carefully brush all my intel notes under the bed and open the door to see him sheepishly rubbing his neck

"Hey uh...did you already eat dinner?"

We haven't spoken much outside of work in the last few weeks. We work in the morning and afternoon and he comes back at around 10pm.

"I did." I say simply waiting for him to respond

"I see" as I'm about to close the door he stammers. "i'm sorry i haven't been here, it's just been....busy"

"Without your sidekick?"

"It's just that Mirko can do things that you can't. Your quirk isn't exactly the easiest thing to get around"

His words hit me like a truck. "So you also think my quirk is more of a hindrance than a help?"

"That's not what i meant Y/n"

"Your words were clear Keigo. You don't need to say anymore" I once again try to close the door but he uses his hand to keep the door open.

"Hey! I'm not done talking!"

I'm slightly taken aback at his words. Never has he ever been rude to me or spoken to me in an aggressive tone.

I say nothing

"What is with you? I know i haven't been around but you're twisting my words"

"That is what you said Keigo. It's late, please leave"

"i didn't think you were like this H/n."

His use of my hero name sends chills up my spine and makes my heart sink.

"I guess i am"

He clicks his tongue and slams the door shut before going to his own room as I sink to my knees and hold my head in my hands

His words echo in my mind, as well as his working with Mirko. Two hero's that work well together is certainly better than a hero and his sidekick that does more harm than good.
